    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

I mash in at the strike water temp calculated in beersmith. That program rocks. I think my strike water temp for the batch I have been referring to in this thread was 167. I then set the target for 152 on this batch ad thats what beersmith calculated. I double checked all the math long hand one...

    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

Hmm. Thats a good question. I don't know. I should keep track of the amount of time it takes to sparge the grain. Is that what you are referring too? I will track that on the next batch. Thank you.

    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

I'm going to ask a real dumb question, but oh well. I am mashing in with the temp and volume that beersmith calculates. I flood the water into my mash run and stir the mash enough to get the grain nice and soaked. I then start my rims system and cycle the water through the grain bed so the...

    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

I am taking the calculated volume in beersmith and sparging at the endof my mash by running the sparge water through the grain bed with a hose that whirlpools the water from the top of the grain bed and allows it to drain through. Thank you for the responses.

    Not hitting Original Gravity #'s

Hello everyone, I bought a brewmagic about a month ago and have been brewing like mad. I also purchased beersmith for my laptop to assist in my brewing. I have brewed four batches of beer now and none have hit the calculated OG's from beersmith. In fact, I am usually off by a tenth or more on...

    Increasing batch size w/All Grain

That was the original plan, but I was hoping I could save some time. More than likely, if I can't find a good reproduceable method than that is what I will have to do.

    Increasing batch size w/All Grain

I like it! So I fully understand you, i'm going to recap. I have a second boil system that I have been using for boiling my wort when doing extract beers. It's a turkey friar, but it works great. So I can just unhook the supply hose that goes to my brew kettle and sparge some extra water through...

    Increasing batch size w/All Grain

Thank you very much for the insite. I agree. I think overtime, I probably need to just upgrade my setup to brew larger batches. I have a lot to learn on the system as is. My main concern with having a larger boil kettle constructed is that I worry it's going to become top heavy because it will...

I'm a little nervous... Just placed an order with KegConnection

Hang in there bud. I've only been brewing beer for six months, but fell in love with it so much that I took the plunge. All my beers were extract up to this point and then I started reading about all grain brewing. Game over! I bought a Sabco brew magic, because I didn't have the patience to...

    Increasing batch size w/All Grain

The fermenter isn't an issue. I'm purchasing a 42 gallon fermenter from Blichman engineering so I can ferment larger batches. The boil kettle is the limiting factor. The boil kettle that comes with my sabco is sized for the burner. A larger boil kettle would have to keep the same diameter, but...

    Increasing batch size w/All Grain

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, just got a membership today. Once I get my paypal setup, I'm going to become a premium member. So excited. Sooo, here goes my first thread, hopefully i'm not beating a dead horse here. I recently purchased a Sabco brewmagic and I want to brew full 1/2...
