You might just not have the right temp controller. The ones with "fuzzy logic" have worked better for me. I can't explain why, but it's been the case. I've tried a few different models. Are you using an SSR? Is it a three vessel system like a Kal Clone?

I bought the SS Brewtech mash re-circ manifold and have been happy with it. For the hose connection I simply stuff the 3/8 tube inside the 1/2 inch tube and it works just fine at the low flow rate one would use for mashing. The manifold fits perfectly inside my solid sided SS BIAB. So my rig...

I concur. I've recently had a similar issue with overshooting temps and an auto-tune fixed it.

Yep, corrected. Also OP thought he found the cause. Perhaps it would be more useful to check that if your star San smells instead of posting something insulting about someone who hasn't experienced the issue.

Meh. I think it's helpful for someone without much experience in brewing to see someone respond the way Hunter did. What it really means if you're paying attention is "yes, that's unusual for star San to smell that way". I wish I had more info to be able to add to the discussion of "why" but...
