How do you keep trub out of your CFC?

I have a question regarding the paint strainer... I do 5 gallon batches in my keg. Will the paint strainer be big enough to reach the wort for a 5-6 gallon batch?

The Ultimate Wine vs Beer Thread

I can't drink wine by itself. I have to be eating something with it. Beer on the other hand....great by itself and great with food.

Step bit vs. hole saw... Discuss...

Step bit is better.. But I had no problem drilling my keggle with a hole saw. In fact it was extremely easy, and cost $7 for an arbored hole saw at Lowes.

    Reuse primary as secondary?

Just leave it in the primary. And when your LHBS tells you never use plastic buckets for more than 7 days, just laugh at them and tell they you aren't buying another carboy.

    weld-b-gone

I use them. Stainless. No leaks.

    Plate exchange wort chiller

I almost bought one of those. The only thing that concerns me is the space between each channel.

Has anyone done any REAL experiments with CFC and Hybrid Chiller rates?

Dont even waste your time flowing the water in the same direction as the wort. No wonder you gave me such a hard time about the hybrid chiller if you thought I was gonna to that. Also I think in order for the test to be fair you should put something inside the coils as well. I would never...

    Immersion chiller question

Technically the water should travel from the top of the coils to the bottom. Heat rises so the hottest wort will be at the top of the kettle...where the coldest water should be. You should definitely stir the wort as well....in the opposite direction that the cooling water is flowing.

    Counter Flow Wort Chiller

Cuz your boiling them still. Boiling the hops removes some hop flavor as the oils get boiled off.

    Counter Flow Wort Chiller

I just thought of something.... Who says you have to stop boiling when using a counterflow chiller?? Why not just keep the wort boiling and shutoff the flame when there a few gallons left. I guess this would throw off your hop additions tho...nevermind :)

    Beer Fish Tank

You could just pour concrete into the fermentor.

I'm 5' 8.5" 170lbs and I have a spigot. just installed it tho, havent brewed yet, but im sick of siphoning...cant wait to use the spigot.

    keggle pickup tube

I dont know yet...I just installed it!!! But I used to just dump the whole kettle into the fermentor before I started AG, so I' not worried about stuff going into the fermentor. I just hope my pickup tube doesn't get clogged. I use Pellet hops tho, so I dont think they will clog up the 1/2"...

    keggle pickup tube

Here is a pic of my pickup tube. It's a 1/2" copper ppipe and a compression elbow. It leaves about 56oz left in the center of the keg... I dont worry about filtering stuff out.

Cleaning new cooler MLT before first use?

I do the 'pickleing' of all my brass parts. It seems to work fine. I do always have issues with compression fittings tho. I dont know if they are made differently than the brass nipples, but the compression fittings never turn a buttery yellow color. They just stay dark the whole time and...

    Counterflow Chiller Tutorial

Well, after all my 'hybrid' chiller talk...I think I'm just gonna make a CFC with my 1/2" IC. I already starting unrolling it. It seems pretty easy to straighten it out. I'll probably go with the Cheyco method tho, and not use solder, cuz Im a noob. Also I guess I will try 3/4" ID Tubing for...

    Bottle condition after cold crash?

I must be losing it. I can't find the post anywhere. Maybe I didn't even post it... But I do remember thinking this same exact thing, and I was pretty sure I read somewhere(could've been other forums) that it may lead to trouble with carbing. Oh well, Im glad it doesn't because I want to...

    Counterflow Chiller Tutorial

I may do that bobby, but then I have the task of straightening out this huge coil. If I did a CFC with 1/2" OD Inner tubing tho, would it need to be longer than a CFC made with 3/8" OD Inner tubing? Or would the larger amount of cooling water negate the presence of more hot wort? This is...

uh oh! need quick temporary wort chiller ideas

yea, why'd you have to go and open your big mouth, haha. I could be wrong (even tho I never have been before :) ) but I think a hybrid type chiller, if done right, can be extremely efficient. One love!
