What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

Yeah, I got some too.... My biggest.... I had a friend who just got into brewing (I had ZERO knowledge of home brewing at the time). We decided to brew a batch the day before my wedding while he was house sitting for his sister. Every thing went smoothly until it was time to put the...

    Death to hops...

I think I will have something to harvest this year but it may only be one brew's worth. Like I said...its a first year plant. I really did enjoy having them around this spring even with all the work (read obsession). I will be ordering more this coming April/may and plan on doing it right this...

    Death to hops...

Yah, I rushed planting and didnt prepare the area well enough.. Im going to dig them up later and replant in a better prepared bed so I can avoid this situation...or maybe just a big pot...I have not figured out which one... Thanks for the support..SWMBO did not understand why it was worth...

    Death to hops...

I wacked them with the weed eater yesterday. I dont have a temper...just the opposite in fact... but when I realized I hit my Stirlings with my Craftsman 27cc 2-Cycle Full Crank Brushcutter Combo Weedwacker® Gas Trimmer I was enraged... They were first year Stirlings that were over 9' tall...

Breast pump to replace march pump?

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Breast pump to replace march pump?

Do you think I could modify one Tim Taylor style? If I decide to produce and sell these supercharged breast pumps I would have to put a disclaimer on the box. Something like "If there are more than two breast pumps in the house be sure to label the pump for the proper usage/safety" or something...

Breast pump to replace march pump?

Just a thought... I am having a hard time justifying an expensive pump to SWMBO to use for home brewing. I figured if these things are ok for babies they are ok for my beer... Some questions arise: Whats the average GPM for a breast pump? How much head can you get from one of...

SS washer hose VS. CPVC/Copper mash tun

That makes since. Manifold with slits touching the bottom if the tun would be more efficient since the siphon wont stop until 1/8 of an inch or so from the bottom of the cooler. I think I just made up my mind.

SS washer hose VS. CPVC/Copper mash tun

Did you buy that or make it yourself? I have seen them before and I like that design. Seems that I could fashion somthing like that with ease. Just need to find some SS screen. I will build both and give them a shot. We shall see...

    I Hate Whole Hops!

I prefer whole hops vs. pellet for the simple fact of being able to see what condition the hops are in before I put it into my wort. With pellets, I cant visually/physically verify the freshness of the hops since they look hamster food....

SS washer hose VS. CPVC/Copper mash tun

Would there be any advantages to using one or the other? for example, if using the SS braid style on could tip the mash tun to get any leftover wort from the grain assuming this would not fluff the grain bed too much. maybe start the mash with the drain side slightly lower than the its opposing...

Electric brewery plans - need help

Nope You will be fine. I was going off the statement "less than 5 amps" and assumed that was for each pump...

SS washer hose VS. CPVC/Copper mash tun

Interesting. Do you think you gained efficiency because of the manifold or did you change somthing in your process?

SS washer hose VS. CPVC/Copper mash tun

I'm not sure if this has been discussed but.... I'm about to build my first official mash tun (4 AG brews and LOTS of frustration later) I cant make up my mind on which method to use. I have seen alot of builds on both SS washer hose style and CPVC/copper manifold and I cant make up my...

    New Brewery Build

Wowza... I like all the pics....I'm impressed. How about a little more detail about the system. The Kettles look snug against the wall. Do you think that will be an issue? what about the tile, im not super familiar with an electric system but one would assume it would put off some heat. Nice...

Electric brewery plans - need help

I would agree that the 25 amp breaker is pushing it. You will more than likely be ok. The only issue that may come up is the pump. The start up of the pump (when it draws the most amperage) is what one should be concerned with but I HIGHLY doubt it would pull enough amps for it to be an issue...

    Other hobbies besides homebrew..

Good thread indeed. I think the Cooking/woodworking go with homebrewing for sure. They are all DIY things...Just like the DIY thread is one of the most popular on HBT. Guns/shooting...not so sure if they go well with beer or drinking at all, however, they are a blast... Knucks to all the...

Electric brewery plans - need help

Dang, P-J beat me to it. According to the data sheet posted with the terminal blocks, they are rated for 30 amps. If you get 2 of these and divide your amp drap correctly they would work. Keep in mind you would have to bring 30 amps to each block, not hooking one up to the other, that puts your...
