Extract brews often do not go below FG of 1.020

I've had one as low as 1.008 and one at 1.009. I have had plenty of others between 1.010 and 1.015.

    Raspberry Wheat

Thanks for the replies. I looked at my LHBS, but didn't see any extract. Of course, I didn't ask either, so maybe I'll hit them up about it next time I'm in there. As for the purée, where would I find it? I looked in Publix here in FL and all I found was raspberry pie filling, jam, and jelly. I...

    Raspberry Wheat

What do y'all use for the raspberry addition if you've brewed a raspberry beer? And how much would you use for a 5 gallon batch?

Just started new batch missing Yeast!

Wow! I have no idea how the time lines got so out of whack for me. I swear I saw the post was from the day before yesterday and that there were only about 3 replies. Disregard my advice. I doubt wort that has been waiting in the fermenter for more than a year for yeast would result in very good...

Just started new batch missing Yeast!

I know this is from yesterday, but you could put the wort in the fermenter, order some yeast overnighted and put it in when it arrives. I don't think a day or two without yeast would hurt much. As long as the airlock is in place you wouldn't have to overly worry.

    My first year home brewing

Flooding my garage the night before my very first brew. A little background... I wanted to see how long it would take to cool down a 5 gallon batch, so the day before my first batch, I boiled a kettle of water, then stuck the immersion chiller in and started it cooling. Now, the thing is, I use...

How old are you? How long have you been brewing?

52 times around the sun. 4 months and 7 batches, including the one boiling right now :) Why oh why did I wait so long?!!

    What are you drinking now?

A Chinook IPA...my own brew, of course...whilst I wait another 23 minutes to add a hop addition to me NB SMASH American Ale boiling away. It's a good day! Cheers!

    Brew Dogs...

I liked the show overall, but, especially, found the food/beer pairings interesting. I was also struck by a WTF moment during the first episode when they decided to use peppers as ingredients; the day before, I was coming up with beer names for when me and a couple friends start a brewery and...

    La Petite Orange

For those of you considering the La Petite Orange, with the coriander optional addition, for a first..or second, or subsequent brew for that matter, I found that the two week minimum conditioning that the NB recipe calls for (2-3 weeks), is not enough. I cracked the first couple bottles at 2 and...

    Caribou Slobber = Bass Ale?

Well, he IS a BMC drinker, so who knows. Maybe he was just dredging his memory to come up with something to compare it to. Since I've never had either, until two days ago...when I first tried my CS...I have nothing to compare it to. I know I screwed up the cooking a tad and only ended up with 4...

    Caribou Slobber = Bass Ale?

Just cracked my first batch. Gave a couple to my neighbor and he immediately said "This tastes just like Bass Ale." Now, I've never had Bass, so wouldn't know. Would any of you who have brewed Caribou Slobber compare it to Bass?

    Cross Pollination

If you want to grow more than one type of hops, how do you keep them from cross pollinating and creating hybrids? Do you just have to ensure none of those pesky male plants survive?

    Dry DME vs Syrup

Unionrdr, thanks a lot! Definitely a chart I'll get use out of. Do you happen to know of any that convert grain types? Like Briess products vs. Weyerman products vs. etc? Thanks again for the dry vs. syrup vs. grain chart.

    Dry DME vs Syrup

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to be careful in measuring...need to get a small scale one of these days.

    Dry DME vs Syrup

I'm going to brew a La Petite Orange next weekend. I got the ingredients list from Northern Brewer. The recipe calls for 6 lbs Pilsen malt syrup. My LHBS gave me two 3 lbs bags of Briess DME Pilsen Light (a dried malt extract). Are these the same thing and can I use them in the same amounts? In...
