Kegging for the first time - step by step would be appreciated!

+1 for the stickies! I know it is a lot of reading, but just about every question you can think of is answered. Combine that with a reasonable set of tools, a little common sense and before you know it you are drinking your very own draft beer! Have fun! Jim

    Just popped my kegging cherry!

You will be very happy you took the plunge! Your non brewing buddies will have to pay homage to your bad kegging self.:rockin:

    Frozen Cornies... Busted bottle

I would check your liquid out connection with a spray bottle , the plastic might have developed tiny cracks. It would suck even more to have your keg unthaw and spray out in your fridge.

Accuflex Bev-Seal Ultra - length of line?

Greg, That is a great point. There is already too little confusion about line length!:) I guess I will just keep using the SWAG (scientific wild a$$ guess) method. I have cut this line three times and it is still too short.

    Filling CO2 tanks

I use a co2 shop. I thought it was odd too! They sell dry ice, service commercial accounts for co2 and sell co2 to the public. It costs seven bucks to fill a ten pound tank. The only downside is that they only fill tanks on Tuesday. Jim

CO2 on outside of the kegerator

You do realize the coolant lines run in the walls of your freezer. Putting a hole in one of the lines turns your keezer into a pretty box where you keep your warm. beer. The only real effects of cooling your tank are; it takes up space you could use for beer and it renders your tank pressure...

    Dry hopping in the keg

I just tapped an Alpha King clone, while the bitterness was about right, there just was not a big enough hop nose. I see several of you dry hop in the keg using various methods. How long do you leave the hops in the keg? I have noticed many posters citing grassy flavors from prolonged exposure...

    Need some thoughts...

No it is not too late to purge. Whatever c02 is in solution will stay in solution. There is a far surface area exposed to air in a keg than in a bottle. If you have a pressure relief valve, give it a little pull, did gas come out? Relax , don't worry ect... No gas hiss? Put it on gas at 10-12...

Do I bleed carbing psi before serving?

Brewmax, I know it is a big pile to wade through, but Bobby M's thread on force carbing is worth anyones time to read. It is located at the top of this page. Cheers, Jim

How many kegs do you own?

I have four ball locks but could use two more. I have an alpha king clone on one tap and a miller lite clone on the other. I am bulk ageing a mead in the third. The fourth is clean and waiting for time or inspiration.

    StarSan in Keg

Derte, that is some fearless foam! But seriously, Lynn, I hope you changed your O-rings. Because they will pass on their soda flavor.

Do I bleed carbing psi before serving?

That is a pretty high setting for psi. I am usually at 10 to 12 psi. There are charts readily available that will show typical carbonation for different styles. I would guess you will have great difficulty in serving your beer.

    Star san users

I typically brew with RO water, so I have several 1 gal plastic jugs around. I keep my starsan in those. I will dump a gallon in a clean keg before I fill it and use that keg to run starsan through my serveline and faucet. I also use the spray bottle. It is fairly inexpensive to use, I toss it...
