    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

I brewed this about ten days ago, 8 lbs pilsner, 2 lbs wheat. I was a little too efficient and ended up at a .:cool:56. Just tested and I am at .011. It is still a little cloudy, I will give it another 10 days or so and coldcrash and keg. The sample I pulled tasted amazingly good. Thanks Ed! Jim

    Hydrometer Quality

After reading recent postings on hydrometers, I decided to test my 15 year old classic! I picked up some distilled water cooled it to 59 f plunked my hydro in and it read 1.0. Does this mean it will be accurate for the entire scale?

What can I make with this?

I have 10 lbs of pilsner, and a pound each of; munich, vienna and carapils. I can harvest wlp029 or buy something else. I only have cascade left but my lhbs has a good selection of hops. I can only ferment down to about 62 degrees. What can I make? Thanks

    Pre-heating a mash tun..

+1 on the 10 degree hotter strike water to pre heat mlt. I drilled holes in my rubbermaid lid and filled them with foam, let that dry, then filled the surface holes wit a dab of caulk. It seems to retain heat very well with no blankets or towels.

Best solution for cleaning beer lines

So, you don't clean your kegs at the same time? It has always seemed like a two birds with one stone thing to me. At least where I live CO2 is cheap, I pay 7 bucks to have a 10 pounder filled.

Best solution for cleaning beer lines

When I empty a keg, I will rinse the keg a few times with hot water, then add a gallon or so of hot water and oxy, shake it up let it sit for a while shake some more and turn it over. I will then hook it up to gas and push that through the line. I them empty the keg and rinse a few times , then...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just checked on my bubbling Kolsch. Hit an astounding 85% on brewhouse efficiency(blind hogs and acorns), so it will be a little stronger than anticipated. I will take it anyway. Cheers, Jim

Reno, Thanks for the kind words. It was fun! Chemistry was never this much fun before, plus you get to drink, what a country!

    1st All Grain, smoooth!

MY first AG went off without a hitch or hiccup. Shout out to Bobby M, used his tutorial and his suggested double sparge method. I made Ed Worts Kolsch. Brewers friend calculator shows 85.2% efficiency. Start to cleaned up took 5 hours with a 90 minute boil. All grain sure makes a longer day! I...

    What efficiency should I expect?

I am not offended by the KISS method at all, the best plan is usually the simplest, with the fewest variables. What I am attempting to employ with this thread is the 6 P's; Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. So, the consensus is no extra grain, and stick to the recipe? To be...

Best single addition to your brew day procedure

I have to ask the same question as a previous poster; what are you doing that you need puppy pads, towels, super suckers ect.? I think kegging is the biggest difference. I don't know why, but I hated bottling.

    What efficiency should I expect?

My first AG will happen on Saturday. I don't know what efficiency to expect out of my system. I ordered another 1.5 lbs of my base malt to compensate for possible low efficiency. If I get great efficiency, I will have a higher gravity beer. What would you do. Thanks, Jim

How much amylase enzyme should I add?

Who would need advice on how to make crappy alcohol? Yeast do not care what they eat.
