I'm new too but the only thing I would make sure is that the bottom of your boil pot wasn't scorched with the extract but I would just keep going with it and not worry about it. Just the opinion if a new guy I've done three batches so far so I could be wrong but I think it will be fine
I've brewed three batches of extract and want to go all grain next and was thinking of doing 1 gallon batches to experiment with flavors and other ingredients. Any advice??
I'm getting ready to make my first hard cider, any advice?? Is it carbonated? I've seen the additive kits for sale to add to the cider to get things going. I'm pretty new to homebrew so this will be my fourth brew but first cider. Thanks
Thanks so I should use a 5 gallon Carboy for secondary?? Or how would I fill the space in a 6.5 Carboy. Could I throw a pound of sugar in to increase volume?? These forums rule!!
I've been leaving my beer in the fermenting Carboy for at least 4 weeks then transferring to a secondary for another 2 or 3 weeks. I want my beer as clear as I can get it. Does this seem ok?? I'm doing a coffee porter now and plan to ferment for a month then secondary for 3 weeks with cocoa nibs...
I've been reading some head space blogs and was wondering some things. I I use a 6.5 gallon Carboy and all of the beer kits I use say to fill the carboys up to 5 gallons. With this volume is head space going to be an issue and what effects will not enough head space have on my beer. I've done...
This will be super helpful for my next brew. Thanks everybody I might just have to start another brew pretty soon. I just finished the coffee porter well I mean just put it in the primary and pitched yeast
Ahahaha! I was just thinking how happy I am to be brewing and have something fermenting! We finished a pumpkin ale a week ago and didn't have anything going
I've used a true brew IPA and an amber and a brewers best coffee porter. I'd like to go get separate ingredients myself outside of the kit. The kits have everything all measured out so I'm lolling to do somthing that is not a regimented as a kit if that makes sense. As far as what kind of beer...
I really want to start brewing and stop using kits. Currently on my 3rd batch all kits. I just have a 3 gallon brew pot more like a stock pot and of course all the carboys, funnel and the stuff for fermenting. What would be a good way to stop using kits??
I'm headed to a health food store that has a huge home brew selection and supposedly knowledgable staff I wonder if they'll have it. You must use that for boil?? I was thinking cocoa powder last 10 min boil and the chocolate nibs last two weeks of secondary
I was wondering what the best type of beer would be to have a chocolate beer. And can I use an ingredients kit?? I just have one brew pot and haven't done any recipes without a kit yet.
