    SMaSH APA

SMaSH APA « on: Today at 07:35:30 PM » Quote Modify Remove Hey all! After several experimentations this year, I went back to basics and brewed up an all-2 row, all Cascade pale, using BIAB. it turned out pretty decent! it won't win any awards, but as an IPA and pale ale snob, i take my...

It may look stupid, but it works really well! (pics)

O I lied, I dont use a pump, just running garden hose into the pre-chiller, then connect another short hose into the IC, with the final output filling my pool

Chumpsteak, I did exactly the same thing today for the first time. My batch was only 3gal, but it chilled down to 70 in 13 minutes. I thought it was genius lol

    Tominator IPA (extract)

on second tastings - it has a very strong alcohol taste. kinda burns in the throat like a whiskey would, although not nearly as strong. i'm new to this so i'm not positive it's got a problem, but it is very strong. it overpowers all other flavors at the end of the sip.

    Tominator IPA (extract)

Just chilled a bottle and it looks like it has been saved :) decent carbonation, 1" head on it. a bit hazy, which i expected, but it tasted pretty good - good enough that i have about 48 bottles of homebrew to drink rather than buying commercial beers. cheers! :mug: T

Is it possible to Cold Crash and Bottle Condition?

Thx bomber, that's a relief. It wouldn't be the first batch I dumped but I thought I was getting the hang of it. I'll lyk how it turns out. T

Is it possible to Cold Crash and Bottle Condition?

so let's say for instance, i bottled (IPA) then put them straight into the fridge? if i forgot to let them rest at room temp for a week or 2, the yeast will go dormant right away and i get no carbonation (which i proved after opening one a week after bottling). can i remove them from the fridge...

    Tominator IPA (extract)

Well I sampled one this evening (1 week after bottling) and yeah, hoppy but flat. I refrigerated right after bottling. should I have let them sit for a week before chilling? Or was it right to go directly to refrigerator? If I take them out and let warm up, will it encourage carbonation? Or just...

    Tominator IPA (extract)

thx. i guess i can wait :) i don't think i had a cool enough fermentation, either. next time, i'll keep the fermenter in a bin with ice bottles.

    Tominator IPA (extract)

bottled last night! FG was still 1.020 (beersmith predicted 1.017... close enough?). ended up with around 40 bottles worth. after removing the hop sack containing the dry-hop yuck, wife dared me to eat some... so i did :) it was... interesting lol. anyway, i'll crack one of these in a week and...

Using gas stove fuel line in mash tun?

    Thx for the info!

    Tominator IPA (extract)

alrighty, fermentation has definitely completed. the wort is no longer sweet and FG is stable at 1.020. so, i transferred into my secondary and dry-hopped with 1oz centennial. i'll let it rest 2 weeks - if i can bear the suspense. while i'm waiting, i'll brew up another experimental batch, just...

Using gas stove fuel line in mash tun?

Hey all. i tried to find info on this and i apologize if this has beaten to death somewhere and i'm just not bright enough to find it :cross: has anyone tried to use a stainless steel fuel line as a mash tun manifold? they're available as 4' or 5' lengths, 1/2" OD, MIP fittings attached. here...

    Tominator IPA (extract)

Ok 5 days into fermentation, I'm at 1.020, where starting gravity was 1.062. That's a pretty big drop eh? I'll give it til day 7 then I'll run it into secondary. Does it make any sense to leave it in primary longer than a week if fermentation stalls? I Learned a lesson: I drew a sample thru the...
