First Batch on the New Electric Build - I've Got A Few Questions

Bearded! Always with the helpful advice. I figured it wasn't that far fetched to boil through recirculation, I thought I'd heard people do. Welp, I may be headed out to the garage with a 240v induction plate, see if that works any better. Or try out some of that kettle insulation on the...

First Batch on the New Electric Build - I've Got A Few Questions

Like, not be able at all to maintain a boil with a pump going? It's not just that I'm on 1,500 watts and considerably more wattage could do it? I went through the lid for mash return considering I'll have a basket in place during mash for AG, so going in through the side would create limited...

First Batch on the New Electric Build - I've Got A Few Questions

We unfortunately do not have an exhaust hood. Thus, I may be looking into adding that Kettle Condenser I referenced in the first post. I also read that Brulosophy article recently, and while the findings were interesting, I think I'd rather stick with the tried and true method of no lid, until...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

Update on the controller in action for the first brew on the system: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/first-batch-on-the-new-electric-build-ive-got-a-few-questions.642271/ Controller performed flawlessly, I've got a few other items to work out with my overall system, but not bad for...

First Batch on the New Electric Build - I've Got A Few Questions

Yeah, exactly why I didn't want to put the lid on, but I had to slow down the condensation somehow. Typically, I'd be boiling with the lid off.

First Batch on the New Electric Build - I've Got A Few Questions

Hey Everyone, So I finally was able to brew my first batch on the eBIAB system I've been building. For the first brew session, I went with an extract batch, simply because I didn't have what I needed to go all-grain yet (basket, bag, chiller, etc.) and I wanted to start simple in case I ran...

Kettle recommendation- tall and skinny NOT short and wide. 5-6 gallon, for induction

Here's the skinniest concord I could find, at 11.5" wide (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A3J0WA6/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20). The rest of their lineup seems to be more towards 14" wide in the approx. 26-30 quart arena.

Kettle recommendation- tall and skinny NOT short and wide. 5-6 gallon, for induction

@SanPancho I was sort of in your same dilemma when I started putting my system together. I wanted a kettle big enough for 2.5-5 gallon batches, and I wanted it taller than wide, so that the liquid levels would be higher than if in a regular stock pot, to cover the element and such on smaller...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

Good point...I won't be messing with the rear of the controller with all the power inputs/outputs, but I may get another face plate from Auber, considering I kind of butchered it when cutting the square holes for the switches and one of the holes is just a tad too big for a switch, and it's...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

I ended up finding a few options. The lazerworx address above offers industrial engraved options, but their site doesn't have anywhere to design and order easily. But, it lead me to some other good options. I found these guys (http://engravedlabel.com/index.php) who offer the same...

I'll have to take a look through some threads for that guy. I never would've thought of Etsy.

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

And here's the wet test with the element and pump up and running, bulkhead and ball valve installed on the kettle: I ran the system up to mash temps, recirculating the whole time. No drips or leaks, and everything went smoothly. That MKII pump is so ridiculously quiet, I didn't realize it...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

First wet test done. No pump or other hardware yet, just running the element off the probe, but the thing performed very well. There's a little learning curve with the EZboil, but reading through the instructions a few times answers most things. I since finalized and closed up the enclosure...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

Chino, I was able to get an answer from Neutrik advising they are rated for 120v/20a service. This site (http://powerconcables.com/powercon-connectors-a-better-way-to-move-electricity/) also references their capacity, stating, "These connectors are rated at 20 amps (120V)". Another answer from...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

Thanks man, I didn't have any insulated 12ga ground wire on hand, but I was thinking I should do that. Just waiting for the temp probe to arrive from Auber this afternoon and hopefully I can run it through a wet test this weekend.

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

Hey what's up Chino, glad to see you over from Reddit. I used this enclosure from Auber: https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34&products_id=369 Definitely pricey, but it looks really good (to me). Here's another thread of a similar build using the same enclosure...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

And here it is! All wired up and in the box with the face plates on, just need to slide the top cover into place. Not the prettiest job, but it all fits. Checked the switches and outlets for voltage, and everything works so far. Switches kill power to the outlets, the element firing light...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

After waiting what felt like forever for a few parts, I finally had some time to mess with this project after finals were over for me and nothing else was going on around here. Man, cutting out those square and rectangular holes is a monumental pain in the butt. Wish I knew someone with a CNC...

    PT100 RTD Sensor

@Wagon_6 Auber ended up gaving me a break on the shipping of the new probe and I just sent the wrong one back to them for $5 flat ship. Glad you brought up what you did, it all worked out.
