Batch finished high, how much priming sugar should I use?

I had an IPA I made recently stall out at 1.020 (OG 1.060). Its been in primary for 3 weeks now, and the last week I boosted the temp up to 70 degrees and roused the yeast to try and squeek out those last few SG points. The people at my LHBS said to use less priming sugar if the gravity...

So much beer, so little time

Its been 3 weeks since I bottled my first batch and there are 12 bottles left.... I've been forcing myself to stay away from them also. Luckily I have an IPA ready to bottle this weekend, and my 5 and 6 gal better bottles showed up in the mail yesterday. An Irish Red, an American Amber, and a...

First 2 batches have both finished too high

Thats an awesome idea. Any reason I cant put the heater directly into the wort instead of a water bath?

First 2 batches have both finished too high

Safeale 05 I believe. I wrapped a heat blank around the fermenter which is slowly bringing the temp up. Going to invest in a space heater tomorrow.

First 2 batches have both finished too high

Ok ill give that a shot for my next batch. How far into fermentation should I try it? My house stays around 60 degrees so the fermentations have been running long.

First 2 batches have both finished too high

I now have 2 batches under my belt, and they both taste great, but finished way too high. I read a ton before attempting my first batch, and followed every direction to a T. I monitered all my temperatures during the process, pitched when I should have, and kept the fermentation temperature...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Yup. I'm on my blackberry a lot of the time, and this is the best way to mark threads I want to come back to later when I'm on a computer. Great writeup deathbrewer, I'll be attempting my first PM brew this weekend with this method. Thanks.

Irish Red Ale Quaffable Irish Red (Extract)

This recipe looks awesome. I think I'll give this one a go in a batch or two (maybe with a little abv boost).

Looking for a 7-8% abv recipe

Thanks for all the tips, especially the IBM vs. OG chart, that thing will definitely come in handy. My first brew turned out great (American Amber Ale) and was universily well recieved with my roomates, so I decided to go ahead and make an IPA for my second batch. I'll probably do another...

Looking for a 7-8% abv recipe

How does this look: 8.75 lb Amber LME 1.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt .75 lb Toasted Malt 1 oz. Northern Brewer (60 min) 1 oz. Santiam (1 min) I took the No Sham Shamrock Irish Red Ale recipe in Papazians book and bumped up the grains/LME to bring it up to 6.5%. It will be pretty dark...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

My LHBS doesn't carry Munich LME, but they do carry Munich grains. Can I do a partial mash with the munich grains, and then follow the recipe for the extract version? I haven't done a ton of reading on partial mash brewing yet, so I'm not sure I fully understand the process.

Looking for a 7-8% abv recipe

I haven't tried one personally, but this one tops out around 7.3%: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_452_612&products_id=12175 It's pretty expensive, and something about using a kit turns me off a little bit. I think I'll probably be brewing a Lake Placid Ubu ale clone I...

Looking for a 7-8% abv recipe

I'm looking for a high abv recipe for something like an irish red. I like bitter beers, but I want to make something that is a little more smooth and accessible to my friends and family. I've found a couple recipes that look promising, but I 'm not familiar enough yet with the IBU system to...

When did you realize, yeah, this is the hobby for you?

"As soon as that first handful of bittering hops hit the wort I was hooked." This is the truth. I knew I was going to love brewing, but was forcing myself to take it slow and give the hobby a chance to really grow on me. I have a track record of starting hobbies and losing interest after a few...

Best prices for better buckets online?

It's only been 4 days since I got my first batch (an American amber) into the fermenter. Considering that I haven't stopped thinking about, or reading about brewing for the last 2.5 weeks I figure I may as well just jump right into it. I literally woke up thinking about bottling this morning...
