To bottle, or not to bottle: that is the question

Oh, hell yeah. The only time I don't suggest using a cake to finish out a stuck beer is when the style of the stuck batch is significantly lighter, less hoppy, etc., than the one you're pitching into. A trappist ale would be just fine. Now, if it were a stout or an IPA, then I'd not be so quick...

Yeast ..... smack pack vs pitchable tube?

Shot who in the what now? :drunk:

Yeast ..... smack pack vs pitchable tube?

Yes, both of those. Not saying you can't make perfectly good beer without a starter, but it's not as good as it could be. I would suggest listening to this podcast of Brew Strong.

Yeast ..... smack pack vs pitchable tube?

No, it's not really another thread. The fact of the matter is, if you want to make quality beer, then using an activator pack without a starter in anything over about 1.035OG is a bad idea. They lie, like lying stinking liars, when they say that you can use an activator pack on beers up to...

To bottle, or not to bottle: that is the question

Yeah, what they said with regards to letting it sit for a few more days and then taking another reading. I will add, though, that I think 1.018 is too high for something that is A) a wheat beer, and B) has simple fruit sugars in it. If you bottle it at 1.018, I'd bet you get overcarbonation...

    Whoops! Fell asleep prepping starter

Good point. If that thing was smoking, and your detector didn't go off, then you really need to change the batteries...unless you want to die in your sleep some day.

    Whoops! Fell asleep prepping starter

If you drink so much that you pass out, then yeah, I'd say you have a disorder. In the future, try not to get sh*t-faceded when you're performing a particular task like that. Or, if you're planning on getting sh*t-faceded, maybe put off that task.

    Whoops! Fell asleep prepping starter

Well that's a first. How do you just fall asleep when you're in the middle of something like that? What'd you say, hey, my starter is boiling away on the stove, think I'll go lay down? I'm scared to leave the damn room, much less go take a nap! Do you have some kind of sleep disorder?

    Pitching Rate

Regardless of batch size, you should get the biggest you can find/afford. Not only are boilovers very VERY quick and nasty in the flask, but if you ever decide to go bigger or are making a very high-OG batch, it's nice to have. Personally, I see no reason to get anything smaller than...

    Pitching Rate

I crash cool until the liquid turns darker...which means that it has cleared up, because light isn't reflecting off it quite as much. This usually takes a day to a day and a half at ~38f. As for decanting, you just very carefully pour off the liquid, until you start seeing some slurry in the...

    Is my beer infected?

No, you don't win a kiss, you get your dignity card revoked (myself included, because my wife watches that stupidass movie sometimes when it comes on teevee). They stole that from Chris Rock anyway...not the same product, but the same idea. wd-EBG3a7jU

    Is my beer infected?

Here's a thought: take some of the stuff you're putting up your nose, and apply it to said penis. That will be fun for the whole family! 6AM6vMIudVs

    Thermometer Hell

Here you go. This is the post you're looking for in that thread. The thermapen is nice, but if you get the thermocouple indicator like mine, you can swap probes easily. I bought that 39" wire probe and use that to continually monitor my mash. For another $30 or so, you can get the attachment...

Of course dry is always an option...but the man already bought a pack of liquid.

Trejo...DeNiro...Alba...Lohan...is there any way this won't be the best thing ever?

Yeah, Danny Trejo was Machete in the original fake trailer from Grindhouse. Do you remember him from Heat or Desperado or (gasp) ConAir?

Trejo...DeNiro...Alba...Lohan...is there any way this won't be the best thing ever?

This looks to be the first movie based on its own fake trailer. And it looks like the most awesomest thing in the world... Danny Trejo, one of my favorite b-list actors, is Machete. DeNiro is now confirmed, as is Jessica Alba. Lindsay Lohan and Steven Seagal are rumored to be cast as...
