I've done a fair amount of testing with CO2 racking vs using the machine and I just don't think these small kegs last long enough to make a difference. I guess if you keep one for a month or more it could.

Are you making a distinction between fermenting at "slow ferment" temperatures but with the FF valve in, and fermenting using the standard airlock? My working assumption has been that keeping the FF adapter in but fermenting "low and slow" is functionally the same as a regular ferment?

Good to hear. Denny if I get a fermentation fridge what temp do you recommend for 1450? Ewe lady, I've done maybe 20 paks and the only hardware issue I may have experienced is that I noticed the final pumpout from the top chamber goes much slower than usual. I have wondered if there is some...

I was thinking of trying 1450 next time I brew Denny's little RIPA actually.

I can't say I got all the yeast cake - I got about half of it and that was about half a cup worth of beige sludge :) I'll be repitching it shortly into 2 more batches. I've been reading that 1968 yeast is kind of finicky, not sure. I'm really happy with 1318 though.

One other thing - I've been relatively unhappy with the dry hop nose from the hop sachels. So I purchased some 400 micron stainless steel mesh, wrapped it around the bottom of the dip tube, and pitched the hop pellets directly into the serving keg (i.e. I cut open the hop sachels and poured the...

I just thought I'd share an update on my last couple of batches. I tried using wyeast 1968 on a couple of hoppy beers (half Squeezed and a three Floyds gumballhead clone I freestyled) at ambient temp (70ish) and they turned out awful, straight drainpours. Then I tried them again with wyeast...

I've had several beers come with S-04 now. Any thoughts about this yeast in terms of the same aftertaste problems as S-05?

The decal reads the temperature at the outer edge - the middle of the keg could be warmer. Then you would need to take it out and bring it up to fermentation temp. Better to let it sit overnight so it settles to an even, consistent temperature.

No need to rehydrate the yeast. I'm not sure why the manual says not to put the sticker on when the keg is hot, mine stays on and has been through many brew cycles with no damage. As long as you ferment in the same room/spot every time, the sticker will give you a good idea of the ambient...

Used picopaks are pretty much toast. They are swelled and soft, you would never be able to reuse them.

Looks like there's a bunch of new paks in the store - too bad for me I'm still waiting for the go ahead on the brew unlimited...

I expect they will have no problem with however many you can consume - the average user will be far under this quantity. 2-3 paks/month is pretty much the break even price on a month to month payment. If they find it's losing them money they will tweak the price, not cap the number of paks.

This doesn't make sense - even if it takes 2 weeks to ship you can order your new paks as soon as the old ones are brewed, you don't need to wait until they are all drank :-) Considering it takes almost two weeks to properly ferment and (hopefully) at least a week to drink if not longer, I...

You definitely get to order the paks you want. And yes it starts as early as July 1st.

Honestly, the regular corney Ball lock kegs are easy to clean also. The opening is more than wide enough to get in and scrub, and I suspect dishwasher would do a good job too. I never use dishwasher because I pretty much always clean just in time to use as a new brew keg or new dispense keg.

I would be interested a more fulsome explanation from Pico. Perhaps they oversize the paks assuming some will not get wetted but it seems a difficult thing to predict. That being said, qualitatively I don't feel any beer I have brewed has been under ABV - to the contrary, they usually hit me...
