Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

He's talking about measured pH at mash temperature, so apparently that's between 5.4 and 5.6 at room temperature.

    TAP-A-DRAFT: first impression...

How do I get the regulator on the current Tap-A-Draft system to pop an 8g N2O cartride? I read in some threads that the Tap-A-Draft could take 8g N2O cartridges, so I ordered a box of 24, however it seems the out on the 8g cartridges is too short even if I push them up into the regulator. All it...

    Guinness Head N2 or n2o

Any idea how to get the current Tap-A_draft regulator to pop an 8g N2O cartride? I read in some threads that the Tap-A-Draft could take 8g N2O cartridges, so I ordered a box of 24, however it seems the out on the 8g cartridges is too short even if I push them up into the regulator. Tap-a-draft question

I read in some threads that the Tap-A-Draft could take 8g N2O cartridges, so I ordered a box of 24, however it seems the out on the 8g cartridges is too short even if I push them up into the regulator. All it seems to do is scrape the paint off the 8g cartiridge, it doesn't pop it all.

Pulling hops after each 4-5 day period.

    My first stout

The carbonation on my S-04 didn't improve much, the carbonation on my US-05 is also pretty unimpressive after 11 days. I carbonated at a slightly higher level than I do with my IPAs, and they usually carbonate fine in a week. I have a feeling I'm going to have to carbonate at an even higher...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

The OP doesn't seem to remember what he actually did either, my assumption is a triple dry hop. The first time I did the recipe I actually did 2.75 oz on day 8 and 1.375 oz each on day 14 and day 21, that was not enough to get it to match up to Heady Topper. The next two times I did this clone I...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

The main problem is that the OP left. The recipe on the first page is actually the 4th version of the recipe and if you look through the first 50 pages of this thread you will see the recipe was highly "crowd-sourced". I think the best answer would be to have theveganbrewer choose someone to...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

The Conan I have attenuates much better than US-05, never had a problem carbonating with it.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

When it comes to the dry hops, I really don't think there is a good sub for Apollo in this beer, CTZ and Chinook could work for the boil though. If you can't find Apollo locally, try ebay. Farmhouse Brewing was out of CTZ last time I ordered so I ended up getting it on ebay. Hops are a light...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I would say Simcoe is pretty critical to this clone. IMO CTZ is the closest you can get to a sub and Chinook isn't even close, in fact I would say Chinook is closer to being a sub for Apollo, but again not that close. You could partially sub CTZ for some of the Simcoe and be fine, especially for...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

MO/2-row would have probably worked. Subbing MO for Pearl (as well as GP or Optic) would make the malt bill too heavy for the hops to cut through the way they would with Pearl or a 50/50 mix using those heavier Fawcett malts and 2-row.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I've subbed out a 50/50 combo of Golden Promise and 2-row for Pearl malt and could barely tell the difference. If anything, I liked the GP/2-row mix better, so I do that for all my Heady clones now. There is no question HT uses Pearl malt, and they claim that is a big part of it, but I feel...

    30 minute stout w/ 100 IBU

It's only a 1/2 oz chips and I already had a stout on it for two weeks (which should turn out great once it is carbonated), so I'm sure this stout will get even less wood than the last one.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I've decided to do a 4th dry hop with my latest Heady clone since I'm only dry hopping for 4-5 day periods now. We have no idea how many times they actually dry hop it, and I figured why not give it another dry hop and take it the full 28 days. Pliny the Younger does a quadruple dry hop.

    My first stout

The carbonation has been a little low on my S-04 batch, not even close to Guinness, so I took the last of it in my 6 L Tap-A-Draft bottle out of the fridge and put it back in the closet to see if the CO2 on top of the bottle conditioning will get it there in another week. I bottled the US-05...

    30 minute stout w/ 100 IBU

Gravity was down to 1.011 after a week. I didn't have anywhere to put this beer so I put the kettle in the fridge for a few days to crash the yeast. A few days ago I bottled a 6.5% ABV stout that had been sitting on 1/2 oz of oak chips in my 3 gallon Better Bottle carboy for two weeks, so I put...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

I was actually thinking about a stainless steel conical and this is much less expensive, however the wall rack thing wouldn't work for me because I need to keep my fermenters in my Cool Brewing Fermentation Cooler and I'm not sure how I'd do that without some legs, or whether this conical would...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

There are different opinions on what temperature to add the whirlpool hops, the first 3 times I did the clone, I waited 30 minutes and let it naturally cool to 180*. The last time I cooled as quickly as possible and added them at 170*. The general consensus is also just to add them and don't...
