I want a new type of ipa

How about the "old" type? Hint: think British.

    Home brewing in Japan

Than for the encouragement. At first, it sounds so simple. Buy a bunch of hops, yeast, and grain, and put up a web site. Haha. There's a ton of behind the curtain stuff that needs to be addressed before-hand. Not un-manageable, but certainly more details than I first imagined. I'll keep you...

Element size for 200L boil kettle

I think you're on the right track. There's an old thread on here somewhere of a guy starting a regular nano-brewery and he was brewing 50 gallons as I recall and using two 5500 elements. edit- Found it. This:https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=144764

    Home brewing in Japan

Bluefrog, Thanks for the response. I'll probably put up the results in a week or two, after most of the responding community finishes. I'm hoping to get us a good variety of hops at competitive prices and some different dry yeast varieties as well, not to mention liquid yeast! Finally!

    Home brewing in Japan

Hey Fellow Japanese Homebrewers. Can you help me out? I want to gather some information on your brewing and purchasing habits. Please take a moment to do this survey. And please pass the link on to any other homebrewer you know. The survey is in Japanese and English...

Do I need rice hulls in my 5 gallon partial mash?

First question (indirect): why would this be a partial mash? Are you adding this to extract? Second question (direct): How is the wort getting into the kettle? Will you be lautering from the igloo? Is so, then definitely throw in some rice hulls. That much wheat and oats can cause a problem...

Questions about group by for hops

Hi Dan, I can't help much in giving input (I live in Japan) but I think .25 lb (112g) might be a good package size. Another suggestion, for your survey, is to check out Google forms. You can quickly compose your own survey form, send it out digitally, and have the results tallied...

    My "BIAB" brewery

Great looking brew system. Amazing amount of loving effort. It is ironic, though, the lengths you've gone to "eliminate the sparge and the associated time/equipment with doing it." I think you've overcompensated! :)

    My Apologies to all BIABers

I keep butting heads with people on this, but there is an efficiency curve which BIAB bumps up against as it hits 1.060. You seem to prove it to me.

    Really fast carbonation

I don't mean to be such a harpy on this. I'm a not a physicist, and I don't mean to spend time on these details. I want to be brewing today! If I'm wrong, so be it. I'll slip out the exit. If you think I'm an a**hat, pardons! http://www.kegerators.com/carbonation-table.php Across the...

    Really fast carbonation

How so? A glass of beer with 2.5 volumes of co2 in solution will be the same whether it is poured from a bottle or a tap. What am I missing here? Amount of gas in solution is dependent upon temperature and pressure. One method loads it from outside and another loads it from inside with the help...

    Really fast carbonation

A quick look at a carb chart tells me that a 20 degree difference makes a 1 Volume change in co2 at the same pressure. Ever drink a lager at 1.5 Volumes? Not close to one at 2.5V. As for comparing bottling to kegging, the science tells me it's all about the pressure in solution and the head...

    Really fast carbonation

Not much mention of temperature in this discussion, although it a variable in the equation. The amount of co2 in solution and the amount in the head space move into equalization during the bottling/carbonation phase. It takes some time. And the final amount of co2 (pressure) in the pairing...

    Grainfather!!

I took a look and was quite taken with the simplest one of their line up. But when I "priced" it out with some of the options, I was shocked at the price. the headline price is 275, that in itself is too good to be true. And then when they list what is included: Whats Included; 7.5, 10, 15 or...

    Home brewing in Japan

Yep. I've ordered keg lids and other parts. SS out of China tends to be a little less finished off than what I am used to, but the stuff has been serviceable. You should be okay. Have you used Ali before?
