    Can't beat the price either, $39 at Lowes. I purchased it tonight for this project. I have one more keg to cut the top off and then I'm starting the polishing process tomorrow. Brewstand arrives on friday from the metal fabricator!

    yes, i use a 200ml Erlenmeyer flask and it works great.

    any benefit from the vortex hitting the stir bar? Always figured that it was best to keep the yeast in suspension. I set it to the lowest setting and check for sediment when i walk by.

    you can use aluminum but you will want to create an oxidization layer first. put about 1gal of water in it and boil it off. there are always a risk of needing a blow off tube during the first stages of fermentation. the second brew i did blew all over the closet in my office. so i play it safe...

    another options is to use RO water you get from the grocery store. This is a base level water and from there you can add carbonates/bicarbonates to the style.
