3rd Strike (Possibly 4th) and I’m A Pissed Off Brewer

I’ve been brewing about a year now. I started out with extract brewing and was make some decent beer. On a batch that I brewed to be ready on the 4th of July (a Real Ale Fireman’s 4 Clone – Blond Ale) the beer had a bad soapy flavor. The beer also would not carbonate very well...

Thanks guys...this beer will probably be in secondary for about another month...that would be about a month and a half total before I carbonate it. Thanks for the opinions

    More Yeast for Carbonating?

I'm have a beer that has been bulk aging in a secondary with oak for several weeks now. I've decided that I'm going to keg this beer and naturally carbonate it. My question is, do you think that I would need to repitch some yeast for carbonating the beer because it's been sitting for so long?

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

Ok, so I had the beer on about 25psi for a few days and it did make a difference. I haven't checked the keg for leaks yet but I'm of the opinion that a small leak would not be a real issue. Furthermore, if I did have a leak I my CO2 tank would be gettting bone dry by this point. I also still...

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

The beer does have a little carbonation but not enought to affect the taste or mouth feel of the beer to much. I have tried using the tap tower and using a removable tap. I'm pretty confident that I'm obstruction free. With regard to the tap I have been opening it slowly and only about half way...

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

Yooper, I've been thinking about that too. I recently listened to an episode of The Brewing Network "The Sunday Session" on kegging and carbonation and they mentioned just that. I'm actually planning on running that test. It may be worth while to replace the o-rings on my keg (both of them for...

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

Lot's of great advice and thoughts...thanks guys. I set the pressure at 25 psi the other night and will let it set for a few days. I have in the past set my serving pressure between 5 and 10psi. The other issue I'm having is a massive amount of foam, I'm using 8ft of line but. I'm giving it...

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

It was at 17 psi, I vented it to decrease the pressure in the keg to get it to a serving pressure a before I drank it. I'm going to give you a complete rundown of the whole process July 4th - kegged the beer and chilled it July 6th - once cooled I put 15psi on the keg and shook and...

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

I actually just recently changed out the gauges and had the reg. checked out. It's definatly getting the CO2. I perged the keg a short while ago, hooked it up, and poored a glass. It has some carbonation but not what it should. I should have about 2 volumes in there right now but there is now...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

I've heard Jamil talk about the same thing...the other aspect to it is pitching rate. I was on a kick awhile back of making a starter for every batch and that is not always necessary or advised. Some styles don't require the high pitching rate.

    Carbonation Is Kicking MY BUTT!!!!

Ok here's the situation. I have a beer that has been in the kegerator for more than a month now, under about 15 to 18 psi, and it has little to no carbonation. I have put it under pressure and shaken it until it couldn't take any more and then left it under pressure in the kegerator. The beer is...

    Stocking Ingredients

Thanks Big K. I was doing some looking at hops too and that just seems daunting, more for the fact that I just don't know what I want to keep around. I'm definatly going to keep a bag of 2 row around though. Thanks

    Stocking Ingredients

I've only been brewing for a short time now and I've been using kits for the most part. I've recently begun developing my own recipes and using recipes that I find. One thing I've been wondering about has been stocking ingredients. I'm brewing about twice a month and plan on keeping that pretty...

    (512) Brewing Company --- New Austin, TX Microbrewery

We ought to try and set up a CenTx HBT (or hell anyone who wants to come drink beer in Austin) pub crawl some time. I'm thinking of hitting the Draught Haus after work if anyone is interested.
