    Keg Cutting Q?

I usually fill kegs with 1-2 gallons of water before cutting the tops off. Personally I would depressurized the keg, remove the spear, dump the beer, and then start grinding. Removing the spear does not take too long, and will make dumping the beer easy. It sounds terrible smelling old beer...

    Heating element for fermentation chamber

I also use Flexwatt Heat Tape and it works great. Reptile Basics has the tape and the cables needed. I think the will also attach the cord for free.

Source for 2" triclamp to 1/2" npt adapter?

Thanks for the suggestion. I also got mine from him a year ago, but it looks like they are out now. It also looks like stpats.com does not sell them. Looks like I'll buy a 2" tri-clamp to 1" npt and a 1" to 1/2" reducer.

Source for 2" triclamp to 1/2" npt adapter?

Does anyone know of anywhere selling 2" tri-clamp to 1/2" npt adapters? I'm in the process of building an inverted keggle HLT. Brewers Heardware has them on back order. I'm not finding any on ebay, McMaster, Glacier Tanks, or Murray. Are there any other sources for tri-clamp fittings?

    Hombrewers CSA?

I think its a great idea, but I have been hesitate to join because of the legal issues. I think the group gives homebrewers a set amount to cover ingredient costs (my memory is hazy but I think it was close to $40 for a 5 gallon batch). Should the group get in trouble, I imagine they hope for...

Local brewing clubs/groups in SF east bay?

If you don't mind driving to Oakland, Bay Area Mashers is an awesome club that meets at Linden Street Brewery. I'm not sure what the current membership count is but its more than 80.

    Looking for Pliny the Elder

As stated above, I would try wholefoods first. Most of the wholefoods in the sf bay area get weekly shipments of Pliny.

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

Nice write up! I've been thinking of doing the same and using a ti launchpad instead of an adapter. Its $4.50 plus you get some additional IO.

Alec had only great things to say about the Cask canner. It definitely got me thinking about canning instead of glass. Just got to figure out where to store 12/18 pallets of cans :cross: Here a video of Uncommon Brewers' older manual Cask canner

Totally agree, I wish i had pictures of the keg. It was a simple design of cardboard octagon tube around an over-sized 2 liter soda bottle. Inside of the plastic bottle was a bladder which looked like an ice bag. The beer goes in the bladder and gas is pushed between the bladder and bottle to...

I didn't get an exact number but it was about $20ish a piece. I'm unsure what purchase volume that is.

Yeah, I was a surprised too. The two brewpubs only keg for festivals or to special drift accounts that are more about publicity than profit. Think speciality beer bars. The production brewery Uncommon Brewers actually uses the disposable kegs from KeyKeg. The disposable kegs have opened their...

I'm beginning to think seriously about opening a small production. While still several years away from opening, I thought it was time to start "researching" (a.k.a. BREWERY TOURS! :mug:). Its been a great experience talking with the owners/brewers, and its really helped shape my plans. I've...

What part of town are you staying in? If you are actually in SF I would stop by Speakeasy Brewery today from 4-9 for firkin fridays. Theres usually 80 plus people for $3 beers, and the brewer give tours. Magnolia, 21st Amendment, and Thirsty Bear are all good brewpubs. Russian River is...

Definitely Sparky, i'm always interested in meeting a fellow homebrewer for a beer. I live 5 blocks from the Anchor Brewery. Maybe someday I'll reserve 10 slots for a tour and organize a HBT meetup...

    Brewpubs in San Francisco

If you are looking for people to meetup with shoot me a PM. I'm always down to grab a beer. Speakeasy Brewery is open on fridays to the public. Starts at 4pm and they usually have a tour. If I remember right, pints are $3, and the brewers are always chilling with the crowd. They have a great...
