San Francisco Lager Yeast other uses

I use it with a schwarzbier (black lager) and its pretty tasty. I ferment a little on the cold side for SF Lager at 57F, but it works well.

Hop Growers in San Fran and Sacremento area

Mary from Hops-Meister is a commercial grower in Lake County. He's having good success with Cascade, Chinook, Nugget, and Columbus. From my brief conversation with him Fuggle was not very happy with the heat in the area.

    San Francisco Bulk Malt Buy

Is anyone interested in joining a bulk balt buy in San Francisco? I have a buy already organized and looking to push the total number of sacks over 40 to reach the next price break. 50Lb Bags of Briess Pilsen (or comparable) ~$31 per bag 55Lb Bags of Baird's Maris Otter (or...

    RPM for Motorized Mill

I have a Monster Mill 2-2.0 and have a 80 rpm motor. No issues, and I can mill about 20lb of grain in 6 minutes. Like others have said it just takes alittle longer to mill. The difference is 3 vs 6 minutes. I would go with whatever is cheapest and the time difference doesn't matter.

Beers in San Francisco to try?

My favorite beer bar near where you are staying is ChurchKey. It has a great beer selection. Here is my list of places I recommend to people within SF city in order of preference... - Toronado (Definitely checkout the bottle list, its truly amazing collection, you can buy bottles to go) -...

    The Can Van

I talk with them about 1/2 an hour and think its a brilliant idea. I see two types of groups interested in their services. 1) Contract brewers who are are draft only and want to can one-off batches 2) Brewpubs who don't have the space to store cans or a canning line (remember you need to order...

    The Can Van

So I ask the Can Van folks what their minimum size was and it's 100 cases or ~8 BBLs. They are open to negotiations, but I only think a very small number of homebrewers with HUGE systems would consider that viable. (still would be cool though!)

    San Francisco Beer Tour?

SPLASTiK pretty much nailed the list. I would also add lucky 13 on market is a great place for local beers. If you are a RR fan, Pliny the Young kegs are still floating around. I came across it at PiBar last night. As SPLASTiK said Whole Foods is a great place to find RR beers.

    Opening a Bottle Shop

Check out "Beer Revolution" in Oakland CA and "City Beer Store" is SF CA. I think both are legally bottle shops who's licenses allow them to pour draft. beer-revolution.com citybeerstore.com

    Calling All San Francisco Brewers

I think the tour needs to carter to both people who have never brewed before and more experienced brewers. Thats why I think its important to showcase stovetop brewers (making it accessible to new brewers) and more complex systems (cartering to people who want "geek out" on the technologically...

    Calling All San Francisco Brewers

SF Beer Week is coming up quick, and I looking for some homebrewers to participate in an event. I would like to organize several "Homebrew Walking Tours" to showcase some of the local homebrewers. The event idea is to lead about 15 people to three or four homebrewers' homes and allow each of...

    Brewers Hardware????

I also have had issues reaching Derrin. I emailed several times over the last month to return a faulty temperature sensor. I never got a response and gave up after the third email. Like you said, I'm not sure if he just taking a vacation/break or is there is something more serious.

I agree with bottlebomber, Speakeasy has an awesome happy hour. Starts 4ish on fridays and goes until 9ish. Free admission and $3 beers. Sometimes there is music and always a good crowd. I think they are also open on saturdays now. Depending on your timing, I highly recommend attending a...
