    Electric HLT qsuestion

What would be the best (cheapest), found locally route for the relay? I can build or fabricate just about anything, just not very familiar with electrical. Just done basic electrical on jeeps and other vehicles, nothing really within a house other than ceiling fans. Will a regular relay from...

    Electric HLT qsuestion

I'm currently getting together all the equipment that I need to do all grain. I'm wanting my HLT to be electric so I can regulate the temp better. I'm going to put a water heater element in a 50qt SS pot and found this element online at grainger...

    Electric HLT (easy?)

I'm looking at the same thing, but what is a good option for 110v since I'm not looking to boil. Oh 5 gal batches.

Finned heat exchange tubing for a counterflow chiller?

Yep, hopefully it's cooled to where you want it by then.

Finned heat exchange tubing for a counterflow chiller?

One way I was looking at it is to have the pipe with the fins in a rain gutter that is sealed at both ends and fill the rain gutter with ice water. That could maximize the contact with the fins and pipe without having to build some contraption to move the water across the fins.

Advice Sought: Budget brewer re-evaluating my all-grain equipment

Oh, switch over to a picnic cooler with manifold to get the bigger grain bill. You can get a bigger cooler for the buck and keep the rest of the equipment the same, unless you want to upgrade those.

Finned heat exchange tubing for a counterflow chiller?

I think it would work great if it had a heat sink style fins that went with the pipe. Only thing I can think of is that schedule 80 pipe with a manifold injecting the cold water from multiple sights along the pipe with a single exit point for the water.

Advice Sought: Budget brewer re-evaluating my all-grain equipment

Just throwing this out there, but do you have a NG line you can tap into. If so, converting to NG could save you some bucks for the equipment, instead of paying to refill the propane.

    Plastic water bottle as secondary?

Well I scored a FREE #1 5gallon water bottle. Not really worried about the whole o2 permeability, due to a better bottle is made of the same damn plastic. I will be getting a glass one for lagering but I only secondary for a week or two at the most for Ales. Thanks.

    Wooden Beer Crates

I've made a few changes to the design with most the credit to a buddy of mine (thanks Mike). This is a crate for my dad for christmas. It's not finished yet but here it is for right now, I'll post the finished project later.

    Compact 3 Tier Stand Build

Search for member name -TH- and look at his 5 gallon brew rig with tippy dump. It is very compact and is all gravity, no pumps needed. Even without the tippy dump its pretty cool.

5 Gallon Brew Rig - Now with DIY Tippy Dump!

TH, I appreciate the info. For some reason your "unconventional" method makes more sense to me. I'm in the process of modifying a store room in my garage into a brew room and was looking into a set up. I was going to make my HLT electric but was going to make my BK run off natural gas. I like...

5 Gallon Brew Rig - Now with DIY Tippy Dump!

Love your set up, have you done any other updates to it? I'm about to make the leap from extract and mini mash to all grain. What size cooler are you using for an MLT and are you using braid or PVC or brass pipe pick up ( cant remember what they are called right off hand ) in your MLT. Oh, and I...
