Lots of airlock activity w/out aroma?

I didn't listen, I opened some wine instead of a brew! Oh the humanity!

Lots of airlock activity w/out aroma?

I'm just concerned that if it has no aroma it will have no flavor.

Lots of airlock activity w/out aroma?

You may recall that I posted a question about how much fermentation might smell. I'm now concerned with the opposite situation. My airlock is bubbling like crazy in a 67ish degree room but to get any aroma at all I have to snort straight from the source and I get barely a whiff of bread. It's...

    Low initial gravity?

Quick update: I woke up this morning to find my airlock bubbling like crazy. Must be a good sign.

    Low initial gravity?

Ohhhhh, right! I didn't stir the wort after topping off! Duh! I did stir like crazy at the beginning when i added the DME. I pitched dry yeast. Should I open the bucket and give a few gentle stirs? The yeast went in about 2 hours ago.

    Low initial gravity?

Just finished my first boil! (Belgian Wheat extract) I took a turkey baster of wort for testing but didn't measure right away. An hour later I realized the test tube was waiting for me so I read the scale which showed a whopping 1.022! I was starting to freak when I realized the wort was...

    1st Brew Tomorrow! Yikes!!!

Thanks, all. My brew has been delayed one day due to a scheduling conflict and now one more day due to weather. I noticed that the liquid yeast's best by date was Saturday. My guess is that I should get a second vial to help things along - there isn't a risk of too much yeast is there...

    1st Brew Tomorrow! Yikes!!!

Question 4: what's the point of measuring the initial gravity? I understand the idea of checking it to make sure the fermentation has stopped but I don't recall reading what I'm supposed to do with initial information. Thanks.

    1st Brew Tomorrow! Yikes!!!

Call me chicken but I'm really intimidated. I'm making a Belgian wheat extract pre-pack and the directions are a lot like the sticky so I probably won't screw up the series of steps too dramatically. I hope. I've got 3 questions: 1 the kit calls for adding the extract to the cold water while...

Does the aroma decrease over time?

Acuenca, you've met my wife? ;-)

Does the aroma decrease over time?

I don't need complaints 2 days into my new hobby!

Does the aroma decrease over time?

My plan is to boil outside and ferment in our laundry room which is 10 feet from the kitchen. Is it reasonable to expect the process to throw off the largest amount of fumes during the first 3-4 days of fermentation and fall off once it gets to the secondary? I could do the first week in a...

World beer fest in Columbia, S.C.

My wife and I are thinking of going but I'm afraid it will be too crowded to enjoy. Last year we went to the Charlestown Food & Wine Festival but I couldn't stand having to throw an elbow to try 1/2 ounce of wine. Thoughts?

    Storing extract ingredients

This spawns from my 1st thread - I didn't want to hijack myself I'm tempted to follow the advice of my learned friends here and postpone my first brew, a Tripel, until I have something under my belt that will allow more immediate gratification. What's the best way to store the recipe kit...

    Smell during Fermentation?

We have a rarely used guest bathroom that I suppose could house a primary for a little while - perhaps a long while in the tub so the floor space would be clear for emergency visits. Keep the door closed and turn the fan on for a bit if it gets funky. I'll stick my min/max thermometer in there...

Do various beers smell more/less during fermentation??

Is there anything else "difficult" about Belgians other than time required? I don't want to give myself a more difficult task than I need to my first time around.

Do various beers smell more/less during fermentation??

Hi - This is my first post though I've been reading for the last week or so in preparation for my first brew. I have to admit to being thoroughly overwhelmed by the variety and enormity of information here. You guys are very generous with your time and expertise and us NooBs appreciate it...
