Thoughts on this Pastry Stout grain bill

Only my opinion: I think Carafa + Special B would be fine. If you haven't used 13.8% Crystal before, you might want to back off on that a bit. But some people like a lot of crystal, other's don't. Also, don't hesitate to go to 10% oats. That really adds a silky mouth feel. You won't even...

    Erlenmeyer Flask Thermal Shock

I give it 99% chance its borosilicate. Unfortunately, there are a quite a few factory rejects being sold on Amazon and other places. Those flaws may include bubbles in the glass that can fracturing. Your proposed test will stress the glass, even if its good. I'd boil it for 20 minutes, then...

    Dank Hops

I've done a lot of Columbus+Chinook. I'd also add Idaho 7 and Green Bullet.

My barley field is not looking good

I asked the vendor about the cultivar and type of barley, but they could not tell me. That was probably a warning sign right there.

My barley field is not looking good

That answers a lot. Thanks. Is there any hope here of rescuing some of it?

My barley field is not looking good

This locale is zone 6a. Due to a number of unfortunate events, memorial day was the earliest I could get out here. I've got some questions off to my extension office.

My barley field is not looking good

I need some help. I have a vacation home out in the Oregon high desert. I'm attempting to grow some barley as an experiment. Before planting I limed the soil. The barley is well fertilized. The soil is sandy loam, but nothing has really ever been grown here, so I'm not sure what state the soil...

How to oxygenate 5 gallon batch?

I used to use the fish pump+filter+ss airstone. Now i just use a pump to transfer when filling and make it spash, then hand swirl for 15 seconds. Never had a problem with this for non imperial batches. Works fine for double IPA.

What came in the mail for you today?

I've always found that I never have enough clamps and gaskets. Always have extra gaskets too. Oh and TC end caps!

What came in the mail for you today?

In fact the local welding place didn't have enough ten pound tanks to even let me pay the money. The guy upsold me in the "idea" of a 20 pound tank :)

What came in the mail for you today?

I know. Nothing I can do about it. At least the local welding place has pretty clean tank swaps.

What came in the mail for you today?

I got a 20 pound Co2 tank online. Local place quoted me $260 for the tank and $23 refills. Found a new tank for $130 to save money.

    Durability of a tilt hydrometer

I once lost the end cap, then send multiple replacements and gaskets for free. That's a stand up company!

    Should you sanitize your hands?

I wear nitrile gloves and spray them with star san anytime I work with a material that is added after boil (hops, enzymes, etc). After a while you find that starsan on your hands is really rough on the skin.
