    Is Home Brewing Ever Easy

@Anderbrau well said! The more I brew the more I'm tempted at throwing my money at an automated system to eliminate the risk associated when brewing manually. I'm on my 3rd bad batch in a row and I'm starting to think that it would be cheaper to just buy kegs of craft beer from my local brewer....

    Is Home Brewing Ever Easy

I've been brewing for a couple years now and I must say that home brewing is far from easy. The amount of things that can go wrong from creating a batch a beer are almost endless! Brewing can be easy if you have a lot of money to throw at it. But for myself, I find it a challenge. Everything...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Chocolate Oatmeal Porter

"Sparge: Batch sparge with 2 steps (1.02gal, 4.09gal) of 168.0 F water" Is it normal to sparge with that much water? it's the first time I notice this in a recipe.

    HELP! Too darn sweet

This is funny because my last batch is WAY too bitter and I need to figure out a way to sweeten it up without re-activating the yeast. Maybe we should blend our 2 batches ;)

    Possible infection?

It looks normal to me. Just keep an eye on it to see if it settles. Don't give up on it yet!

    Unbalanced cure?

Good day, Something weird happened to my brew. As usual, I put it in secondary for 2 weeks. Near the end, there were no more bubbles in the airlock. I added an ounce of Cascade hops for dry hopping and like magic, it started fermenting heavily once again. I was only supposed to dry hop for 7...

    Life of sanitizer

WOW, this is good to know!! I usually mix up a new batch of sanitizer for every batch I brew. Specially for when I'm cleaning out my bottles. I'm guessing that this is overkill? "I'm talking about the pink stuff"

Kettle False Bottom with All Pellets?

I'm also having this problem with my keggle! I've used dual SS braid and it just clogs right up. What I've done to reduce the sludge is create a hop mesh cylinder that I use to steep the hops. It's basically a 4" CPVC reducer with a nylon mesh attached to it with a SS round clamp. There's a pipe...

70 qt. cooler for 5 gallon batch

I know this is an old thread but I also bought this cooler and I have a very hard time keeping the temperature up when making a 5gal batch! blankets don't help, pre-heating doesn't help. There's just way too much empty space. any idea what size cooler I should use for a 5gal batch? I generally...

International Pale Lager Something Like "Stella"

hmmm you might want to substitute the flaked rice with flaked maize.. I brewed this and it turned out horribly.. probably my fault but anywho.. the final results ended with a major rice flavor lingering in the mouth. I call it my Sake Beer. It will be very difficult to pass this off to my friends.

    Good Afternoon from Ontario!

Hey!! welcome to the club! I'm located in Ottawa! Any good Local Home Brew Shops around your area? There's only 1 here called Defalco's and they're quite expensive! It's cheaper for me to drive to Montreal to pickup my supplies. There's a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum that will...

haha.. you found my source.. I couldn't believe the non-sense this person was regurgitating! I guess this is the sort of crap that brought on the Prohibition.. What I don't understand is most christian paintings and literature actually describe the disciples enjoying wine. Hell, even the...

This is why I make my own beer! well, it's also fun..

Beer Usually Contains One or More Chemical Additives GUM ARABIC (acacia) is in common use by many breweries as a stabilizer to prevent any alteration on the beverage before it is sold. It also helps the foaming quality of the beer. Yet medical literature warns that "allergic reactions, liver...

    crusty bottles

Good day! I purchased 50 used Grolsh bottles and recently noticed that there's a thin flim/crust at the bottom. I've tried soaking them in Diversol, tried the jet washer and it's just not coming off.. Are there any strong products out there that could remove this? I also tried a brush but the...
