    Growing Hops in Ecuador

You can try using lights. I have heard of people living close to the equator using lights to create longer days for their plants and getting flowers because of it. It may be worth a shot!

Time Lapse Video of a Growing Hops Bine

Thanks guys, this stuff is interesting. I now have more reading to do. This setup found at nagmay's link shows the way Darwin got around not having a time-lapse camera. Pretty neat and simple system!

Time Lapse Video of a Growing Hops Bine

I made a 2-hour time lapse of the hops plant in my office yesterday. You can see it reaching out circling looking for something to grow on. I figure it makes a full rotation every hour and a half. I would be interested to know if that rotation period changes through the course of the day/plant...

So, are my rhizomes going to die?

I certainly wouldn't give up hope. They're probably okay :) Keep us posted!

So, are my rhizomes going to die?

If the shoots didn't break ground yet you should be in decent shape. Did the rhizome send up shoots that now look wilted?

    rhizomes outta control

Okay I get you. I misunderstood and thought you meant the entire shoot. Cutting the just the growing tip will definitely buy time. And I agree, this would be the best way to deal with bmaker62's concerns!

    rhizomes outta control

You're right, cutting back an established plant has become the usual in commercial hop yards to minimize variability in harvest dates (this way they are cut and all start growing new shoots at once). But I would not cut a barely established rhizome back at all. I have had new rhizomes put up a...

    rhizomes outta control

I second TahoeRy. You'll be fine allowing them to grow. However if there is any chance of frost, there is a small chance that they may go into shock if you plant them outside without 'hardening them off' first. Keep that in mind. It doesn't mean you're doomed, just that it will take a small...

    Simcoe Hops

You can attempt to do what few succeed at: I have read on here of accounts where people nurse a bine tip found mixed in with a Simcoe fresh hop order. I myself have never been so lucky.

    New 100 Rhizome hop farm

Make sure to keep an eye on them then! I had some grow mold after a couple weeks in the fridge. Might want to put a paper towel in the bag to keep the drops of water off of the rhizomes.

Sounds fun man, I'm looking forward to seeing your project progress!

    Wintering hops

Sounds like moving them into the relatively warmer basement woke them up from their winter dormancy. If you ziplock them they will mold and die before spring (this is my guess as my rhyzomes did this after 2 weeks in the fridge). Since they have already sprouted, can you buy a grow light and get...

Question about Hop Growing from Seeds!

Honestly, you run the very high risk of getting a plant that has hops that are no good for brewing. If you are absolutely dedicated to the idea that you must start with seeds, then you will have to wait a couple years until all your females flower, and selectively pick and dry (while keeping...

    citra hops cutting?

But the crowns at any hop farm are all female. No males are allowed remotely close to the production field. So any bine included in a wet hop order has to be a female bine. Unless some guy is intentionally adding male bines just to be mean.

Must see breweries before you die!

From their website: The original Breckenridge Brewery & Pub is located on South Main Street in the historic mountain town of Breckenridge. The town's most popular restaurant destination offers one of the most dramatic views of the mountains, which is best appreciated while enjoying an Avalanche...
