    Create a new recipe using the 5 gallon recipe. Then use the "scale" button to change it to the new volume. It will adjust it for you.

    Holidays are good for reduced prices on freezers. Also check your area for a dealer who sells used or has purchased large quantities of units at a discount. They sell them cheap. I have one near me and the prices are normally $50 less than retail and the units are new. Just old discontinued model.

    This and double check all of your losses. BeerSmith takes several brews to dial in. "Also, adjust your boil off rate in your recipe calculater."

    Well I ended up using the above recipe with 2lbs smoke malt. Had just the touch of smoke I wanted. Split the batch into 2 and added 5ml of caramel extract to it at kegging.     Bru'n Water pH predictions always about 0.1 too low -- how should I adjust?

    I followed Martins Rahr 2row advice above and changed the lovibond to 5 as suggested. I had noticed Rahr always came up short and fudged it. Spot on this last brew! Thanks Martin!

    Cracked carboys after cold crashing - Help!!

    I am assuming you are using plastic carboy. How long are you letting the cleaner in the carboy? PBW should not be left in carboy for days as it will deteriorate the plastic. This will lead to cracking. I had this issue and spoke to manufacturer about it. Cold crash should not be an issue.

    Jaded Brewing Hydra is awesome! Been using mine a year and the cooling speed is exactly what they say. (depending on your ground water temp)
