    can I do this AG?

Based on personal experience, which is limited, I would calculate your efficiency at 60% maximum. Unless you are milling your own grains. My first few PM/AG averaged 55% between operator error and poor crush. My barly crusher put me in the mid 70's. So between not having much to sparge...

Instructions on building an AG brew rig?

I would never have made the jump without Beersmith crunching numbers for me. Don't forget a good thermometer, preferably one you can calibrate.

+1 on being from a seed. My shoots look nothing like that. Never mind I didn't see page 2! :tank:

    Temp control during Summer

I would fix whatever is causing the mold in your basement, especially if money is not a problem. My basement used to be that way. I fixed the water problems and no longer have things growing in my basement. Then turn that into a temperature controlled brew cave. Or if your lucky, your...

    What Diameter Sisal rope?

What diameter sisal rope should I use? 3/8 seems like overkill but I don't want to under do it. I have 4 new plants and two second year plants I am relocating from my chain link fence.

    Spent grains and fishing?

Do a Google search for "Soured Grain". I tried it with Milo and it smells about like vomit. Works like a champ!! Basically you put the grain(Milo,Wheat,Corn) in a bucket, soak it, cover it, and let it ferment for a week or more. l will be trying this with my spent grains over the summer...

setting up the hop garden HELP!

Freshops.com and hombrewers garden say about 3 feet apart for like varieties and 5 feet for different. I belive the distance is so the plants dont get tangled together when you harvest. I am planting mine 4 foot apart, but I am only growing six plants.

    Grain storage containers??

What do you guys use to store your bulk specialty and base grains in? My current "bag in a drawer" system needs updated. Looked around at walmart and the dollar store for cheap containers but nothing has caught my eye yet.

setting up the hop garden HELP!

I am no expert on the subject but 70 ft seems like a heck of a span. I think I read somewhere that a mature plant can weigh up to 100lbs. I would hate to see 30 plants come tumbling down during a wind storm. If it were me I would space the hops out a little more and cut back on the...

    pressure treated wood

Same problem here. 2x12x16' acq treated is $20, the same in cedar is 79.99. I need 6 of them so $120 vs $500 is a no brainer for me. I am half tempted just to use good old untreated pine and see how long it lasts. If it starts falling apart after a few years I'll wrap it with the treated...

    Kegging or AG?

Depends on the improvement your looking for and more importantly your budget. I went AG first because it was cheaper and I could get a piece here and there. All the while making good beer. While I don't have anything close to a Brutus 10 system mine set me back less than $200 and it works...

    Noob regulator Questins???

I just got my keg kit http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/ProdByID.aspx?ProdID=7739and have some regulator questions. One is when I went to pressurize my empty kegs to check for leaks I slowly tried to raise the pressure to 30psi. While I was doing this, the regulator started sputtering...

    Almost finished 4912 Conversion!

I did exactly what this guy did with the door. http://community.livejournal.com/homebrewing/413981.html It worked perfectly. Trace around the door panel and screw holes, cut it out, and she goes right back on, gasket and all. I may end up needing the door panel if I upgrade down the road...

First Wort Hopping - anyone experience with this?

I have no experience with it but BeerSmith has the option for "First Wort Hops". Using EdWort's Haus Pale as an example. Changing the first addition of hops at 60 minutes gives you 35.5 IBU's and changing it to First Wort ups it to 37.7 IBU'S. If that helps any?

    Water Profiles

I have been having this problem too. Noonan in New Lager Beers has this for London water: CA 90 Mg 5 Na 15 SO4 40 Cl 20 HCO3 125 Designing Great Beers has this for London: Ca 50 Mg 20 Na 100 SO4 80 Cl 60 HCO3 160 And BeerSmith has completely different numbers...
