Off flavors are seriously bringing me down

This sounds like the perfect justification for a new, larger brew pot! Give the wife a good scientifical type reason that her oreo balls screwed up your brew pot and VOILA! Happy Valentines Day. I don't know that this is actually your problem, but soap and oil don't come near my brew pot...

What beers have you poured out?

Same here. I just can't get past the vanilla aroma. Still have 4.8 gallons waiting for someone to come bottle. That or when I run out of empty kegs, down the drain she goes. Probably have to replace the o-rings in the keg as well.

All grain setup I bought a long time ago (and never used).

Here is a link to get your cooler going. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/cheap-easy-10-gallon-rubbermaid-mlt-conversion-23008/ It works for both five and ten gallon coolers and is what I use succesfully for my MLT. Your keggle is ideal for a boil pot and your enameled pot can work as your...

    Noob questions

Stick with the dry yeast and make sure it is an ale yeast and not a lager yeast. You can re-hydrate it according to the directions on the package but I just sprinkle it in. Make sure you shake the crap out of your cooled wort to aerate it, then pitch, and all should go well. A friend of mine...

Frustrated with all grain...going back to extract

My first batches were very low efficiency! No crusher and was using 170F water for batch sparging. Now I crush my own and raised my sparge temps to 185 and my last brew https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f62/cream-three-crops-cream-ale-66503/ I hit 90% or better. There is nothing wrong with...

Considering move from Extract to PM

Skip the PM and go AG. Just make sure you keep a few pounds of DME around untill you gain some confidence in your system. Here is the DIY for the rubbermaid cooler. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23008 It works for both 5 and 10 gallon coolers. I use the 5 and it works...

    Trying to understand PM

For like 30$ you can make a 5gallon rubbermaid cooler mash tun that works like a champ. No steeping bags involved. You also get the ability to mash 12-13 lbs of grain if need be. Also try playing around with some of the free brew software demos like beersmith or promash. Thats how I got...

    Early Harvest??

If I harvested some of my hops before they are perfectly ripe will they have off flavors?

Is there a good fruit to grain ratio???

I believe you can also qoute Ray Daniels in saying that "adding fruit at temperatures at or near boiling extracts haze forming pectins". But, if clarity is an issue and you still want to boil it, you can add pectinase to help clarify. He also recommends 2#'s of blueberries per gallon even in...
