Beer Tools Pro vs. Beer Alchemy

After playing with the big three I've decided to purchase my trial version of BTP. I typically install my brewing software on my home computer but frequently use it from my office computer. Can a single purchase of BTP be installed on two computers?

BeerSmith - BeerTools - Promash. - Which is best? What do you have?

Thanks guys. I believe my confusion stemmed from the fact that I was comparing the web based tools rather than the stand alone version. I now understand....

BeerSmith - BeerTools - Promash. - Which is best? What do you have?

Are there limitations in BTP with respect to how many recipes you can save?

Beer Tools Pro vs. Beer Alchemy

Main thing I want in the software I end up with is a good tool for calculating mash temps. It needs to be something I can tweak to reflect the parameters of my equipment and hopefully nail the strike temp. I've had good luck doing this with ProMash but some of it's other attributes leave me...

BeerSmith - BeerTools - Promash. - Which is best? What do you have?

Thanks for the feedback. So if I purchase the basic package I can store more than 1 recipe I create?

BeerSmith - BeerTools - Promash. - Which is best? What do you have?

I've played around with BS and PM. They both have their attributes and shortcomings. I was going to give BTP a try but ran into something comparing their basic package and Gold Membership which confuses me. I gather the GM provides access to recipes which doesn't interest me. I think the...

    Gelatin Mystery

I never boil. Typically follow BierMuncher's process per the following... "I use a tablespoon per five gallon batch. Mix it with hot tap water in a sauce pot, about 1 cup of water per tablespoon. Stir it up and let it sit for 20-30 minutes to hydrate and bloom. Put the pot on the...

    Gelatin Mystery

I crash cool my brews after they finish and recently have been using gelatin to assist in clearing. I add the gelatin after prepping at ferment temp and then drop the brew to about 35 degrees for several days prior to bottling. The stuff works great but I've observed something which I...

    Props for Beer Smith

I've just started using BeerSmith and must confess I like it. However, I have run into a mystery when using it to calculate my strike temp. If I use the MASH STEP pop up tool by selecting the strike step from my MASH PROFILE in RECIPE VIEW it gives me a figure of 174.1 degrees for my strike...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Hey BierMuncher, Just finished my first batch and all went well. Waiting for the fermentation to complete. I'm curious about what seems to be a rather low fermentation temp? I know you do everything by design so I'm wondering why you selected 60 degrees for fermentation?

Problem with Chemistry between pH and TA

On the surface this does seem to be the case. However, the natural buffering of this red wine will have some effect. Reading does suggest there is a way but I'm not too clear on what it is. Currently I'm cold crashing the wine which is supposed to precipitate out tartaric acid and lower...

    Heads Up on Crash Cooling

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had considered using a smaller mass for the thermocouple reference. Think I give it a try since it seems to work for a couple of you. And with regard to the slightly frozen wine... it may be fine I don't know. I've experimented with making wine Popsicles...

    Heads Up on Crash Cooling

I just discovered something on crash cooling which may be of interest to the forum... It also may be obvious to everyone but me. I have a freezer which I modified to use for crash chilling brews and wine I make. It works well and I typically strap the thermocouple to my carboy for measuring...

    Pump for immersion chiller

I got the pictures on the manifold but I haven't a clue on how to get them posted. Is there a sticky somewhere explaining this? Thanks

    Pump for immersion chiller

Blowing though your ice water in the first few minutes will leave you with warm Wort. If you have a endless supply of ice water, you are correct.

If you knew then what you know now

Take good notes on all you do. It'll constantly remind you of what not to do next time. Make yourself a simple paper form to follow. It'll limit the number of times you say, "damn, I forgot the *&#@". Don't take it serious. It's supposed to be fun and we all make a ton of mistakes...

    Pump for immersion chiller

Not necessarily. There's an optimum flow rate for each set of conditions with each set up of given hardware. Too fast a flow can actually be less efficient on a water cooled heat exchanger. Admittedly my rate may be too slow for optimum heat transfer but it utilizes my ice more efficiently...
