    Pin vs Ball Lock Kegs

I went ball lock because I got a good price on them. At least in Canada a good price. Now I'm going to have 15 of them so I don't feel like messing around changing it. my buddy down the road has pinlock.

    Kegging

That's largely how I do mine, about 36 hours or so. I run 10' beer lines too which allows for a higher pressure.

    Propane burner: Boil Tips

Pay attention to your boil off rate too, the higher the flame the more you will boil off. I bought a new KAB4 burner and boiled off 6L more than I expected to.

Brewing in a country with alcohol prohibition

Agreed, this is definitely making me appreciate how easily I can get brewing equipment. Shine is technically illegal here but unless you're doing it commercially no one cares.

How could I be so stupid?

Yeah I'd have probably just left it in the keg and called it a lesson. I use masking tape and a sharpie to label all my brews though and I gravity read them when I transfer.

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

IT manager by profession but grew up on a farm. Brewing is a nice break from work.

I am going to go 31 days without beer...

I did January fairly well, I'm considering doing 2 weeks in March while my beers lager. I may have ulterior motives but I've dropped 13 pounds since Jan 1.

Washing yeast cake v harvesting from bottle? Better results?

I just overbuild a starter and hang onto some of it for next time.

How long will something last in a keg

I haven't left anything as long as 2 years, but I left one for 4 months and it was fine.

Question about taking final gravity samples...

That's pretty close to how I do it too, usually it only cold crashes for more than a day or two if I get distracted and forget it's in the fridge.

How will these beginner mistakes affect my first beer?

Oh man I remember the first time I dry hopped and all the hops floated. I thought I completely hosed the beer.

    Fermentor air lock not bubbling

It might just not be a good seal either, I have a 7.5G Fermonster I use because it's easy to clean but it never seems to generate bubbles in the air lock. My assumption is the lid isn't properly sealing and the gas is going out through the threads, as that would be the path of least resistance.

How will these beginner mistakes affect my first beer?

The fact the instructions always look like 25 year old photocopies is what blows my mind.

What makes a clone a clone?

That just made it more confusing to me.

Any place in Canada where I can buy a Keging system and kegs.

I've had good luck with hopdawgs on stuff but they have a smaller selection so I tend to go to them for supplies rather than equipment.

Any place in Canada where I can buy a Keging system and kegs.

If you order from their sister site Canuck homebrew supply the kegs are $160 for 4 pretty much all the time. I've bought 8 from them.

Any place in Canada where I can buy a Keging system and kegs.

I use the local industrial gas supply store in Edmonton. $35 for a 10lb tank. Check around for something like Oxypro or any welding gas supply shop. Odds are they'll at least know where you can get CO2.

How much should I expect to invest?

I've personally put about $300 into brewing equipment and about $600 into the keezer. I have a 16gallon brew pot, a bayou burner, a $20 coleman cooler mash tun and a corona mill I modded with a 5 gallon pail. It's probably all sorts of ghetto as it were but it works and works well. It doesn't...

Dropped my Bourbon Barrel, lost 1/2 gal out the top.

I tossed 500ml of Bourbon in my vanilla porter and I have no idea what it did to the ABV but it tastes really good.

    All Stainless/Silicone Siphon Starter

That would be nice if they have it sorted out. I'm intrigued by the idea, largely due to the variance of buckets and carboys I ferment in.
