    My beer is sooooooo close

No idea what brand it is, we buy it in bulk at our LHBS

    My beer is sooooooo close

Well, I'm glad to hear other people have the same issue, and it's not our sanitizing, fermentation or temperatures. Kinda seems to be an extract/low boil volume problem. We'll be picking up our new equipment on Weds.

    My beer is sooooooo close

I'll have to say, this is one of the few forums I've been on where a newbie isn't criticized for creating a new thread while not having a thousand posts. Great replies. Thanks guys! We're officially switching to full boils, possible partial mash this weekend. You guys rock :rockin: We've...

    My beer is sooooooo close

Voodoo... Thanks a million for finding that CL ad. We've decided that we need a turkey fryer, ginormous pot and a wort chiller anyway, may as well add the mash tun to the list, just in case. Can't really beat $120 for the lot. Yooper... Woohoo, a Yooper reply! Seriously, I think we've decided...

    My beer is sooooooo close

From what we lose during boiling, I'd guess maybe 3 gallon boils. I have a 4 gallon pot, but I'm anal when it comes to boil overs on the antique gas range. We've thought about partial mash or getting a turkey fryer for the patio so we can accomodate a full boil. I'm cheap... so sell me on the...

    My beer is sooooooo close

Our recipe with the OG 1.042 - FG 1.014 was Oatmeal Stout 6 lb lme 3/4 lb roasted barley 1/2 lb choc malt 1/2 lb black patent 1 lb flaked oats 1 oz Saaz Nottingham We were a little worried about the burnt flavor from so much black patent, but it turned out good, a little smoky...

Great. Now my boyfriend is saying seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee more hops. Thanks. He's a certifiable hop addict. :D

    My beer is sooooooo close

One of our last was OG 1.048 and ending 1.011, another was 1.042 with and ending gravity of 1.014. They're all slightly off in flavor...FRUSTRATING! We thought it was the extract twang we hear about, but we're not sure.

    My beer is sooooooo close

So far we only do extract brewing. We've done nearly 20 batches and they all have a sweet, sort of syrupy flavor in the background, just keeping our beer from the perfect flavor we want. The gravities have all been close, we've followed recipes to the letter, and we're maniacal about our...

    Leinenkugel Summer Wheat

Has always reminded me of blueberry pancakes, the kind with the dehydrated blueberries that we took camping when I was a kid.

What kinds of food do you enjoy with your homebrew (recipes)

Last night I tossed a couple of ribeyes on the grill which had been dry rubbed w carne asada seasoning and a touch of sugar (for that yummy grilled carmelization), homemade spicy corn and black bean salsa, a warm corn tortilla and a couple of our Mexican lagers. Very refreshing :)

    Espresso Amber Ale

Yum! Have you tried New Belgium's Giddy-Up? It was my beer of choice for the end of last summer/early fall, but I can't seem to find it anymore. I'd love to brew a batch of it! I know it has a barely noticable hint of lemon, with a deep, but crisp, coffee flavor. Very drinkable!!

    beer explosion

We recently made a 90 Shilling clone which fermented so hard that it blew the entire airlock off, not just the top cover (as we've seen a couple of times). The airlock shot off, hit the 10 foot ceiling in our spare bedroom.... time to get the mop from the kitchen. I see blow off tubes in our...

1st Batch Ever -Success- Very Foamy Head

I agree :ban: Since December we've stored a 12 pack of each batch (14 batches) in the basement for our summer bbq and for the occasional "hmmmm I wonder what this one tastes like now". We're gathering quite the collection!

    Bottle Bomb plus clove off-taste

Nope, no need to let it cool. After we use our bottles, we rinse them before the eve is over, wash them when we gather a few, then rinse and sanitize in Starsan on bottling day. We do it all by hand rather than in the dishwasher. Rather than just rinsing twice, maybe add a wash to your...

What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

On Saturday, Dan and I decided to bottle both our Apfelwein and the big IPA he's super proud of... while we brewed our 90 Shilling clone. I guess we had too much going on, because partway through bottling the IPA I looked at the stove and noticed the corn sugar boiling away. Oops. We dumped the...

    Planning for summer drinking.

In our household we're definitely seasonal brewers. We just bottled our Summer and Mexican lagers... should be perfect by early summer. My guy started his favorite, a double dry hopped IPA, a couple of weeks ago, and I'm doing mine tonight after work, a summery lemon wheat. Still nursing...
