Yes, the thermos is clean as a whistle on the inside. Before the soak, it was almost like a rust on the inside there was so much coffee build up. I now know about hydrogen peroxide

I've noticed the film only once. This was also the same time that I didn't mix the oxy clean very well. I wonder if you get the residue more often when you don't disolve the oxyclean completely? I usually add water and oxy clean first, stir well, then add bottles with no problems.

The oxy clean soak and a faucet mount bottle washer should really work well. Hot water through the bottle washer really removes most stuff. and Thumbs up for being in Indiana too! :)
