    Paraphrased conversation with SWMBO

I'm married to an awesome woman. She keeps telling me we need a walk in fermentor, and I am resisting due to the space it will take up. If I want to brew we decide when we have a free day and I schedule it. Not everyone has to fight about it. When she wants to do something, we figure out...

    Brutus 10 BYO Plans Changes?

My PIDs sometimes have weird temp readings flash when the solenoids fire. On your overheated mash, you can actually just cool the mash back down and continue. Throw a few handfuls of ice and keep recirculating. My MLT solenoid stuck once and that worked fine for me. I feel your pain...

    Pruning Side Shoots?

If you are prone to spider mites in your area, you might trim the bottom 6" and put Tree Tanglefoot on it. I just had an experience where I had spidermites on only one plant (normally a big problem in NorCal), I had forgotten to use Tanglefoot on that one plant. I'm a believer in prevention...

    15 Gallon Fermenter Table Build

I've got one with tri-clamps and butterfly valve. I really like it, but I need a collector. Great thought on the sight glass, but you'll need a 2" size and those are $155. I'm thinking the PVC collector here isn't quite that high dollar.

    Rambler Owl Rye Amber Ale

We are brewing this again today and noticed I didn't update the post. This beer was awesome. It has a mild Rye flavor and nice complexity which makes it very sessionable. A bit darker than we wanted, so we'll put in a bit less roast. I 'think' we are going to add a couple pounds of Munich...

    What are you drinking now?

Drinking a 2006 Pannepot Reserva from the cellar. Wow, what a treat.

Beer line tests & solution to the "plastic" taste

I thought it was just me. You are right, the beer tastes like butt in a couple days sitting in 11ft of line. I waste a ton of beer, since when we have guests coming over I take a pitcher and dump the beer in the lines out of the 10 taps I have here. Otherwise, I found people were taking a...

    Show us your Kegerator

@A4J Nice, now that's a different design. You must be a cabinet maker or at least very handy with wood.

    A Homebrewtalk Recipe Book—Any Interest?

I think it's honorable for you to want to give something back, but I don't own any recipe books. Everything I do is in my favorite brewing software. If I had a book, I'd have to end up retyping the recipe anyway and use my computer. I wish people were more diligent in posting the files for...

Starting planning for oktoberfest brew - any recipies?

I did Yooper's Marzen last year and it was really good. I brewed it in June, so it wasn't as good in September as it was in December. I had a problem with attenuation, so it was a bit sweet for my tastes, but I'd definitely do it again. Also, look up the recipe for Southern German pretzels...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA None More Black IPA (Cascadian Dark Ale)

This looks pretty tasty. My CDA was way to roasty, I'll have to give this recipe a try.

    Logo is finished!

Sorry for your loss of Meko and Gunny. Our pets end up being members of our family, I understand how their loss can be extremely painful. It's a nice tribute to have them on your logo. The logo looks great, Josh is really good at what he does. He's working on our second logo creation for...

    getting ready to start

OK.. I did a bit more research. Looks like you could use it as a sanitizer and do your first batch. It can't be labeled as a sanitizer, but it would probably work as one. Quote: Oxygen based cleanser/sanitizer so no rinsing is required. Great at removing stains from carboys and...

    getting ready to start

Sorry, I tend to agree with Tipsy D. I know how much fun that first batch is, but it would be really disappointing to have something infected. If you were close to me, I'd give you some Starsan for tomorrow.

Scaling a commercial brew recipe to 10 gal

I have a commercial recipe for 3100 gallons of beer. The base malt was 4,200 lbs for example. I put it in BTP and scaled it. The projected OG came out alright at 80% efficiency. The wheat and oats came out to be very small amounts and the 7lbs of Horizon didn't yield the right IBUs...

    Home brew nightmare.....

So, you didn't yell at your girlfriend for dropping it did you? Like everyone said here, you'll be fine. For me, I've made many errors like this without a problem at all. I have no clue how my beer that actually did get infected, happened.

    Costco FTW

This Costco was in Santa Rosa CA only a couple miles from the PTY release in RR hehe. They had some Deschutes offerings and a few other corked and caged, or waxed bottles. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I couldn't shop it like I wanted. They are all stacked up by the front entrance.
