    Hydrometers stink!

    You could invest $2.95 in a hydrometer test jar. They have a larger diameter than the wine thief and therefore less tendency for the hydrometer to stick to the sides. One more thing to wash and uses a couple more ounces to fill but worth it IMHO.

    Yes, you more or less need to just double all the ingredients. The mash time and boil time should not be too much different from your 5gal batch. It will likely take quite abit longer to get to a boil and your boil off rate might be proportionally lower so it may take slightly longer to get to...

    Can you recommend a Local Home Brew Shop south of Boston?

    I would definitely recommend Blackstone Valley Brewing Supplies. Steve the owner is the nicest guy and extremely knowledgable. Good selection of supplies and very fair prices. The hours are a little limited - closed weekends during the summer - but open evenings.
