    Diacetyl rest

You should take 2 hydrometer readings3 days apart. If they are identical (and in the range of predicted FG) the beer is done and it's time to cold crash.

    New blichmann burner arrived

Just got mine this week with a natural gas hookup. No more slow boils. No more propane tanks :D

    Hey Y'all

Nah. I'm a Yank. Huge fan of the Coen Bros. film, Raising Arizona, though. In college, used to recite about 70% of the dialog from memory. Developed a fondness for the dialect (which even though set in Arizone, includes more than a few y'alls). Apologies if I confused y'all :D

    Hey Y'all

Even on the board for a month or two (or three) but hadn't seen the intro forum. I've been brewing for about 2 years, began with AG my second batch. I brew 5-6 gal about once a month. I have a keezer with taps running from my garage to the kitchen. My other hobbies/interests are snowboarding...

No offense intended. 'Twas attempted humor. :)

SWMBO poses this question. Help please!

Did you see the BYO link posted by cswest on the previous page? Looks pretty good. Thought I may try it even though I lack a pregnant spouse. Link, reposted

Idea for research article, "Factors associated with Middle-age Weight Gain."

It's more of a thought experiment. Though previously undisclosed, my garage detritus includes discarded roombas and robot lawn mowers, products highly associated with sloth and indolence.

Idea for research article, "Factors associated with Middle-age Weight Gain."

Agreed re:correlation but sometimes we don't care about causes. For example, if I'm a life insurance adjuster, getting a handle on the probability of an applicant becoming obese would be as simple as peeking into a garage. Also, today's correlate may be tomorrow's cause. Correlating...

    cold crashing

So how does that work if you don't mix? Gelatin, as a macro-molecule, diffuses slowly, and at the cold crash stage of the game, convection currents won't be relevant for mixing. I'd guess that much of your beer wouldn't be exposed to the gelatin. I bring this up out of general curiosity and...

Pellet hop headache brew - seeking advice using these hops

Do you the muslin bags or the finer mesh nylon for pellet hops? I use muslin for leaf and have the fine mesh nylon bags but worry about hop utilization with the finer mesh.

I think I found why my beer does not carb

Man. Sorry about that. What a crap deal. You can save your bottled beers opening, adding carbonation drops and recapping.

    cold crashing

I haven't used the gelatin trick but I do use whirfloc and cold crash then keg my beers. I get remarkable clarity but never quite 'crystal' clear. How much mixing do y'all gelatinizers do after the addition?

Pellet hops plus Blichman kettle=clogged mess?

I usually use whole hops in bags and transfer the wort (warts and all) from the kettle to a carboy, allow that to settle an hour while I clean up, then rack semi-clarified wort to a second carboy and start the ferment. I could try to transfer selectively from the kettle by whirlpooling. That...

Pellet hops plus Blichman kettle=clogged mess?

I haven't tried tossing pellets directly into my 15 gal Blichman boil kettle. WIll they clog the outlet tube? Do I need a fancy whangdoodle to prevent this?

Broken Glass Carboy Horror Stories Compendium

So I'm looking around for mik crates to more safely handle carboys. I found this on Amazon. No sure if it's sturdy enough to carry a carboy, though. Can anyone link to a product they purchased and are happy with?

    Looking for good wort nicknames.

I must credit the Daily show for the above.

Idea for research article, "Factors associated with Middle-age Weight Gain."

I threw those items out there to illustrate. As far as I know, there may be no association between obesity and either item, or, the situation may be reversed from that in my illustration; climbing gear assorts with obesity whereas plate chillers do not.

Never been a huge fan of "wort." How about, "The Sticky." :fro:
