    bubbles in my wine

I'll qualify my comments with "I've only made wine from juice and skins kits", but I have made about 8 - 6 gallon batches. It sounds as if you didn't agitate the wine enough as you clarified and stabilized your wine. My very first Merlot had a little sparkle in it, and that's what I attributed...

Kegging for the first time questions

If you coil them up on top of your keg, they stay pretty well contained.

Kegging for the first time questions

You're going to need to carbonate your beer, which will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on how you do it. Search "quick carbonation" or look at this link - https://byo.com/stories/item/2147-quick-carbonation-mr-wizard. Just hooking it up and applying CO2 will result in a...

Need input on parts for fermentation chamber

I did build a shelf in mine and I've had four carboys in at once. Here's a picture of the inside with some corny kegs as a reference.

Need input on parts for fermentation chamber

I used a 20 Cu Ft upright with an STC-1000. It has the capacity to handle several carboys at the same time. I also have both Johnson Controls and Control Products controllers. Both the JC and CP have functionality I never use. They also took dollars I'll never see again. The.The STC works...

    Hey Everyone

I started with a chest keezer with 4 taps. Then I added an upright as a fermentation chamber, and last Thanksgiving I converted it to dual purpose - fermentation and serving. And since then I've added a nitro tap. So, now I can serve 9 beers (including one nitro) and a wine on tap if need be...

    Closet kegerator conversion.

I've seen posts here where folks have taken apart a small apartment sized refrigerator and reconfigured it to chill a different space. Here are some links I saved that might help you think about your project: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/diy-kegerator.html...

    Hey Everyone

Welcome to the East Coast (and the hub of the universe). I'm originally from Sacramento, and have been in the Boston Area for about a dozen years now. There are some pretty good homebrew shops around. If you haven't found Homebrew Emporium, there's one in Cambridge, and in Weymouth. I use the...

    Kegged beer / Bottles

Yes, you can bottle beers from a keg and hang onto them for a while. My experience is that using a bottle filler is better that pouring out of the tap. I have both the Blichman Beer Gun and a Counter Pressure Bottle Filler from More Beer. I like the counter pressure filler better as it does a...

    Samples from fermenter

I have a stainless conical and always use the racking port for samples. I take these precautions to prevent any infections. 1) I make sure that the port on the sample valve is always pointed down. This prevents any airborne bacteria from dropping into it. 2) I spray the port with sanitizer...

    dual purpose fermenter/kegerator

I use an upright for my dual purpose fermentation chamber/serving keezer, and I have the space luxury of having both a serving chest keezer with four taps and a dual-purpose upright - that now has four standard beer taps, a nitro tap, and a wine tap.. The challenges I have with dual purpose are...

    Filtering from primary to secondary

First, why are you planning on a secondary? Next use time, cold, or both. Wait a little longer (a week or two) and then cold crash if needed. A racking cane should leave most of the sediment, especially if you hold it up off the bottom.

That will make a mess with an ale yeast. Spread some paper towels on the stirplate and table. Best of Luck!

"polishing your keg" is more than a clever euphemism

Great job - these look awesome and a tremendous improvement over your first attempts. You should be pretty happy with the outcome.

"polishing your keg" is more than a clever euphemism

You might be right on with the 50 grit causing the issues. Using your grinder at high speeds should help a lot. And you can get the pads from Blaine's Farm and Fleet. I've ordered from them a couple of times and their response time is pretty good. And you don't have to make another trip to...

"polishing your keg" is more than a clever euphemism

This looks to me like you're moving over the area too quickly. It takes a quite a while to get the pads to polish, rather than scratch. I found that moving too quickly left similar marks, and that the whole process took over an hour per corny keg to get them looking good. Also, I found some...

    1/2" wort chiller build advice

I switched to a plate chiller last year and have loved it. It works so much faster than my 1/2 tubing chiller, it's like night and day. I'm not sure what you were researching, but my experience is that it cut my cooling time by more than half, and my concerns about cleaning have proven to be...
