    UnBrewsual's First Brew Day

The fine mesh collander worked out great for my 2nd beer. Because it has shape, it was easy to stop the flow on the kettle then grab it and dump out what it had caught then put it back in the funnel and resume.

    Stainless Vs Brass

Tagging on another question here: Everything I have is SS except for 1 piece that is brass, which is the 1/2 to 3/8 Barb to hook my drain hose up to the ball valve. Do you think I should replace it with SS?

    Secondary Fermentation Question

If it isn't necessary, after 2 weeks primary do I go straight to the keg?

    Secondary Fermentation Question

I am 1 week into fermenting my first brew of Irish Read from morebeer/Northern Brewer. I was planning on moving the brew out of the primary carboy and into a secondary. 2 questions. 1. Do i seal the secondary with a cork or does it need an airlock? 2. What temperature does the secondary...

    UnBrewsual's First Brew Day

I am thinking that a colander would work well as I can shut the ball valve and dump it out when it clogs. We will see next time around.

    Keeping a Keg Cold

I convinced myself that I needed a kegerator =) I found a Sanyo mini fridge for 60 bucks, 4433S is the model. I will start gutting it out next weekend.

    UnBrewsual's First Brew Day

So today was the day I decided to use the stuff I bought. Made an Irish Red from Northern Brewer with White Labs Irish yeast. It is now in a 6.5 gal carboy in a chest freezer with my home made STC-1000 controller. Everything went OK I think but made a few mistakes. Mistakes: Start...

    Using a Pony Keg

They want 15 bucks for the keg, I suppose I can give it a whirl

    Using a Pony Keg

I am going to keg my brew and while searching for a Corny Keg I found a really good price on a pony keg. Is it possible to CO2/tap/refill/reuse these things? Is it more effort? TIA

Ice Bath and a Pot Thermometer

I can't imagine a problem with the valve, they are pretty heavy duty.

Ice Bath and a Pot Thermometer

This weekend I scored a 10 gallon stainless steel pot for 55 bucks from the flea market vendor. I was ordering a ball valve and thermometer to install and I have a question. If I install a thermometer into the side of the pot, will that prevent me from using an ice bath? I am worried about...

    Keeping a Keg Cold

That isn't a terrible idea either, I guess I could do that depending on the ambient temperaturethanks

    Keeping a Keg Cold

Collecting gear and looking for stuff to buy and I have a question. I was planning on only using a single chest freezer to ferment and to keep the keg cold. I would do this by fermenting a Carboy until its done, then transfer the contents to the Keg and adjust the temperature. Once the keg...

Hi All, Total newbie here, have just barely started to pick up the equipment needed to brew, I am guessing based on my finances that I will be making my first batch sometime in October. Anyway, Happy brewing!
