    Oxidation

CO2 sources vary wildly in the amount of O2 they contain. Even with spunding and adding minimal gas if your carbon dioxide came from a trash gas source you could still be doing damage. You also might want to evaluate your hot side ingress.

That sour taste... from GUINNES... how to get it?

The problem is lactic acid has no flavor. Sauergut on the other hand is very complex and there is no way to approximate that with technical acids. The good news is it's not terribly hard to make. There is some amount of instruction available on the net as well as a nice video on how to make it...

That sour taste... from GUINNES... how to get it?

No actually I'm not. Making Sauergut is different then simply souring a mash. It is done with some amount of runnings from a mash, anaerobically and at higher temperatures to select certain lacto strains. This process is very common in German and Czech breweries and the flavors it generates...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

When we bought our first it seemed like the best idea to keep one gas car because of early adopter fears, range anxiety etc. Then it became arguments all the time about who got stuck with the gas car. Finally we just got rid of the ICE and now are a 2 EV household. Can't imagine ever going back.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I think salespeople are actively hindering EV sales. Both times I went to the GM dealer, first to see the the Volt then with the Bolt, they tried very hard to talk me out of buying. Tesla made the right move to get rid of dealers.

That sour taste... from GUINNES... how to get it?

Which is an apt description of making sauergut. If Guinness actually does it with grain solids, it would need to be fully gelatinized and converted before souring and then no grain or grain particles could be added back to the boil, only filtered liquid. Why would a brewery go through all that...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I'd argue the EV models they used in their examples are the ones really no one wants and it's no surprise there is a glut. Conversely Tesla is selling everything they make but that is also no surprise since it makes the best selling car in the world.

That sour taste... from GUINNES... how to get it?

My guess is it's sauergut. However not just any SG, but instead one made with the unfermented Guinness wort, onsite. This is the same well known process as other European breweries do to make SG in their own reactors.

    That German Lager taste

Some do, some don't. Weihenstephan for example uses it on a few or their beers and not others as taste expectations demand. Decoction was more prevalent in the past but a lot of the bigger breweries have moved on mostly for energy savings.

    That German Lager taste

There is no 'one thing' but in fact employing all best practices to the process is key. Ingredients, hot side, yeast management and health, oxygenation, fermentation parameters, cold side handling, packaging, care and storage. All of these things need to be correct if you are aiming for...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

We were just talking about the risk of gas cars vs electric cars on ships. Sadly it seems that gas tanks are not easy to put out either. https://abc7ny.com/newark-nj-firefighters-ship-fire-port-killed/13472286/

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

The news is awash with so called battery technology breakthroughs. Most of it though is really just the same red herring BS as hydrogen has been for the last 20 plus years. Simply to slow the adoption of current battery technology because something so much better is right around the corner. IMO...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I don't think anyone ever said that mining of lithium was without ecological consequences. The main takeaway should be that lithium based batteries in electric vehicles is by every measure much cleaner as opposed to using petroleum as a transport fuel. Plus these battery materials only need to...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I'm curious where you got the idea battery manufacturing or the chemicals used therein were somehow dirty? Lithium mining is comparable to the way salt is produced. And for the life of me I can't remember the last time we heard of a lithium platform in the gulf exploding or a manganese tanker...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Going on 5 years now in a Tesla and I’m not limited to any type of driving. Many thousands of trouble free, inexpensive and fun miles.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

The problem with hydrogen is you can’t change the physics of round trip efficiency, which for H2 is less than half as efficient as storing the electrons in batteries. Battery chemistry can improve but the cost of hydrogen electrolysis cannot.

Anton Paar Easydens Resonant U-tube Hydrometer

After cleaning and flushing store the ED upside down to make sure that last bit of water has time to drain out. Also a periodic cleaning with Alconox is a good idea.

What do you think of the new SmartRef from Anton Paar?

The Easydens is just so much less trouble and more accurate.

    CO2 refill way overpriced?

Unlike nitrogen, oxygen, argon etc which all come from the same air distillation process and are essentially equivalent in quality, CO2 comes from many sources. Some actually quite dirty and contaminated with things like hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide etc. This so called trash gas is typically...
