    Removing labels from beer bottles.

+1 on the oxiclean and hot water combo. Usually after 15 minutes most labels will peal off without a problem. The oxiclean film/residue is easy to avoid. I fill my sink with a solution of 3 capfulls distilled vinegar and approximately 3 gallons of water. Just dip the bottles through the...

    German Beers

Your question is ambiguous - do you mean clones of styles or brands?

    Sun/Light Spoilage

I had a similar concern. I just took the box it came in, taped the top up (to make it taller for the airlock), and placed the box upside down over the fermenter. Stays nice and dark now. :mug:

    Opened my first bottle!

I use only a primary. I have a lid and airlock on the whole time. I can't imagine ever leaving it off. Wouldn't you risk wild yeast or an infection? Maybe if you're going for a lambic that'd be ok, I guess.

    No head, Nicely carbonated...

Carapils/Dextrine shouldn't add color, sweetness, or other flavors to the beer.

    No head, Nicely carbonated...

Kind of, but not really. As stated above, try steeping 1/2 - 3/4 lb CaraPils with your next batch. See if that helps.

    No head, Nicely carbonated...

+1 on the CaraPils recommendation. I brewed a Kölsch from DME and after only a week in the bottles it poured with a nice head that stuck around for a bit...still needs a couple of weeks in the bottles for the flavors, but the pour is nice.

    First time brew problems

I had the exact same problem with my first batch. I put in top off water and didn't stir well enough, which led to an OG of 1.032 instead of 1.042. That batch ended up turning out great and for the subsequent two I have made sure to stir well after topping off. Those gravity readings have all...

    Wort colored ale pail

Thanks for the feedback. I'll just give it a good starsan soak right before the next batch and take it from there. :mug:

    Wort colored ale pail

I'm not sure what kind of plastic it is, but it's the standard Brewer's Best ale pail, if that helps. It's very slight discoloration, like a faint yellow hue and I'm not worried about it, as long as it doesn't affect future beer batches. The smell is still there, though. Nice and hoppy. The...

    Wort colored ale pail

I just bottled my first batch of beer yesterday and gave my equipment a good oxiclean soak overnight. I wiped down the insides of the ale pails and gave them a good rinse today, but my primary fermenter still has a wort coloring and smell. Will giving the fermenter a soak in bleach solution...

    Bottling a Kölsch at 1.012?

I have a Brewer's Best Kölsch kit that has been in the primary for two weeks. OG was 1.034 @ 68F. A little low, but I think I didn't mix the wort and cool water well enough. The estimated final gravity is 1.008, but it's been at 1.012 for five days now, leading me to believe that fermentation...
