2021 FotD Secret Santa Beer Swap

Agreed. Family, life takes priority. I too am patient and will be grateful when the package arrives!

Any tips for my first batch of mead?

After a week or so, I like to lightly swirl my meads. It helps de gas while it's fermenting (don't vigorously shake, just swirl). Also one thing I've learned being new as well is to resist the urge to tinker and do something with your meads. Patience is key. I look at my meads every day and...

    Most overrated beer

I still like Dark Lord but agree on the price. I enjoyed going when it had musical acts and you could share beer from all over the world which made it somewhat worth it, but now they charge the same damn price for Dark Lord (maybe more) and you just pull up, get it, and drive away! Still a...

    Mead didn't start.

If you didn't take a hydrometer reading and you put fruit in, you might try 'punching the cap' of fruit lightly and see if any CO2 bubbles come up. If nothing happens, I'd wait another week or so and see if there's activity. If not, repitching some yeast won't hurt anything this early in the...

    Evidence for TOSNA?

The part I like about TOSNA (I'm still new to all of this FYI) is it gives me a reason to go visit my mead! I've made JAOM which I also like but setting it and forgetting it for someone like me is almost like torture. I like to see what the brew is doing and adding the nutrients etc. to see...

How many gallons of mead, 2021

    3 gallons JAOM 5 gallons raspberry 1 gallon cherry 1 gallon blueberry 1 gallon peach pie 1 gallon caramel apple 351.7+ 12 = 363.7

Do you 'Top Off' Cyser after Primary Fermentation?

I've been using the Little Big Mouth Bubbler and love it. Very sturdy and easy to get fruit in/out. I don't recommend using the black airlock thing it comes with and using your own bubbler instead.

    Caramelizing Honey for Bochet

While I haven't done it myself, I've seen others put the honey in a crockpot and cook it that way. It will cook pretty fast though so you still have to keep an eye on it, but it seems to be an effective method if you don't want to sit and stir non-stop.

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Did a batch of this following your recommendation. It's been sitting for 2 months and I tasted it yesterday and checked gravity. Perfect balance of sweetness and blueberry using the sweet mead yeast. Will take off of blueberries in about a week and put to secondary and let it sit!

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

I've never done that before but I'm relatively new. I will say this one can clock in at about 15% and takes awhile to mellow out IMO.
