    HERMS thermoprobe placement

It seems like people are putting a probe on the HERMS outlet from the HLT. There must also be one in the HLT itself. So, I am guessing that the mash recirc logic is: keep pump on at all times turn on HLT heater when temp at outflow is below desired Why is that better than: keep...

    keezer and fermenter

Very interesting. I would have expected the two to fight each other. Where are you placing the thermoprobe for the fermentation? Are you using glass carboys?

    Best table/stand for electric brewing?

For electric, we don't need the holes for burners so its more like a table than a stand, right? And we don't need to run the gas pipeline, but we do still need to clamp on the pumps, the water filter, possibly a RIMS tube, the wort chillers, etc...... I have seen lots of stalnless tables in...

    keezer and fermenter

Good call on the return duct. The fermentation chamber will also be a closed system so it needs to be able to receive the new air without increasing pressure. I'm not super psyched about punching two giant holes in the side of my keezer collar, but it seems like the right approach. Does...

    keezer and fermenter

Thanks so much for the reply. My keezer is pretty big. To date I have only brewed ales, but would like to try lager. Could always resort to doing those in keezer itself. Will definitely plan to insulate ferm chamber. Also, would probably get a fan more like this. One thing I am worried...

    keezer and fermenter

I currently have a keezer with a 4 inch collar. For those newer to the topic, that means I have placed two by four's between the lid and the body of a chest freezer. That provides extra height (to fit 5gal cornies) and it creates a place that is safe to drill through for power...

    Minor Problem with electrical design

Just tried the diode...used an epoxy rectifier diode rated 200PIV and 3amps. Said it could handle a 300a surge. Crimped it to the wire with a butt connector on both sides. Unfortunately absolutely no change to the behaviour of the circuit. Still getting the undesirable behavior when I have...

    Minor Problem with electrical design

Thx so much for the response. I don't have any experience with diodes. I noticed in your post that you soldered yours. Any options you can think of that don't require soldering? I'm pretty novice and don't have any soldering equipment. Thx, Swan

    Minor Problem with electrical design

I built the attached wiring schematic and it seems to be working as planned (no field test yet), except for one small problem. For the case where the pump button is in NO position which means that the Hot from the single plug is running through the fuse, through the NO on the Pump button, and...

Brew Stand - unistrut or angle iron

I love to tinker with my brew set-up, but I am not the type who has every tool, saw, etc... to build stuff. I eventually stumbled upon a picture of an angle iron brewstand and thought, "that's what I need!". So, I set out trying to learn about the materials/process to build it. It took quite...

    Planning hoses and disconnects

Yeah, makes much more sense to the creator. Here are some instructions List out the items that you are going to be connecting with your disconnects (top set of rows) List out the hoses that you are going to be using to connect all your vessels (bottom set of rows) For each vessel, put the...

    Planning hoses and disconnects

I have been adding a RIMS tube to my 3-tier gravity system which means including a pump. Due to the increased pressure I want to make sure I have solid clamping. Don't want to have to remove all the clamps everytime so I switched over to quick disconnects. I looked around and quickly...

    Chugger pump troubleshooting

Hmm, that sounds like some pretty blatant common sense. Amazing how trying to optimize for something else can make you oblivious to what's important. I have been joking around with friends about the fact that the giant tube attached to the back of a toolbox with a digital readout on top...

    Chugger pump troubleshooting

jm43654, Thx so much for the feedback. I would have to put the toolbox that the pump is embedded into on the edge of a table or hang it in the air in order to allow the inlet to come in from below. That would also be a pretty big turn in the hose as it will be coming from above. My...

    Chugger pump troubleshooting

Thanks Bobby. My planned design is pump -> RIMS tube -> ball valve -> next vessel. I had read on here somewhere that it was better to put the ball valve after the heater. I think it was to make sure you never run the heating element without fluid in the tube. For what you are describing, I...

    Chugger pump troubleshooting

Been working on a RIMS tube addition to my 10gallon gravity system. Purchased a chugger pump to drive the liquid through the tube during mash re-circ and also to hit fly-sparge temp. Using all 1/2" quick disconnect fittings and hoses. Have the inline pump (1/2" connections). Inlet on left...

    Circuit Diagram critique appreciated

Finished the electrical work this weekend. Ordered some fluid quick disconnects and will be testing out the system shortly. Once it is working, I will publish the build in a new thread. Thanks to everyone for their help. Will definitely name you in the build thread.

    Circuit Diagram critique appreciated

I don't think it matters to the output because as you point out the hot has another short-circuit route to the pump anyway when float pushbutton is "off", but seemed like bad practice to have something "on" (amps flowing) when it is not being used. Am I wrong about that?

    Circuit Diagram critique appreciated

Jcos, if I wire the float switch into the same line as fan which is on all the time, float switch will be on all the time. I only want it on for sparging. raouliii, have modified the diagram according to your color/naming suggs.

    Circuit Diagram critique appreciated

Woohoooo, just came across a 12v wall wart. Will be using that instead of my crazy 32v set-up. Should work with my DPDT 12v coil relay now even though I only need the single. Will update diagram when I get back on my home computer. BadNewsBrewery, just noticed you are in Severn, MD. I'll be...
