    HBS in Chicago

    Ron, thanks. A simple catalog is all that I'm looking for. I do like to plan my purchasing ahead of time and knowing what is available (perhaps with slightly different pricing) would be nice to know. I have a queue of about 15 recipes I will be working on over the next 6 months and want to...

    How Long is Wort Fresh? (ie. Mash, Refrig, & Boil Later)

    LOL! Thanks, needed a good laugh this evening.

    Who's ordered from Hops Direct??

    If they told you it would take only 2 days (where as I was told 5-7), then I think you have a legitimate gripe. I can't tell you why my order shipped before yours. I would just email them and tell them you were a little disappointed in the delivery time. Maybe they will give you some credit on...

    Who's ordered from Hops Direct??

    Harry, I also ordered on Monday Oct. 26. Within minutes of placing the order I received an email confirmation that specifically states at the top: "And thank you for your recent order, placed on 10/26/2009 11:56 AM IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ Please allow 5-7 business days for our warehouse to...

    Tried my AHS Pumpkin Ale last night...

    I brewed the AHS Holiday Ale. My primary samples kinda lacked the spice notes that you allude to. I racked to secondary and added one cinnamon stick, 1/2 gallon of apple cider and a few whole cloves. Yesterday, I tried a secondary sample and I like where this is going. Can't decide whether or...

    And so it begins..........from Addison, IL

    Welcome from Naperville! I'd recommend starting with a relatively small kit setup that includes the basics - primary 6.5 gallon bucket/carboy, bottling bucket, thermometer, hydrometer, capper, caps, cleaner, bottling wand, racking tube, etc. Also, buy a sanitizer and two cases of bottles...

    Chain Slap Brewing

    Just a designer's perspective here... Your right, the mountains in the center don't really work as is right now. When I think of Chain/Crank I think of tough, rugged, dirty. The graphical treatment of the mountains feels to whimsical and I don't understand the idealogy behind the mountains -...

    Lagering in a garage

    Lately, I've fallen in love with Cleveland's own Great Lakes Elliot Ness Lager. I'm not normally a lager fan but this Vienna amber is just damn delicious! My tentative plan is to brew the same style early December, primary for two weeks in the 50's and then lager for one-two months in the...

    Crackadawn Stout

    It's nice. The label reminds me a lot of a micro brewery in Michigan called "Arbor Brewing"

    AG = Faster Fermentation?

    Lol! Ain't that the truth. The first time I took my buddy to drink at the Tap House, I had to swear to him that I was not taking him out to some remote location to kill him. You really have to work to find this place. The one time I bough from Brewer's Coop I had to beg them to open the door...

    Just pulled the trigger on 3 lbs of hops

    HBS in Chicago

    BeerGrow, thanks for participating here. Will you being putting inventory online in the near future? I live fairly close to the new Bolingbrook location and would prefer driving there instead of into downtown Aurora. But, I don't have any idea what is in stock and if it would be worth it to...

    AG = Faster Fermentation?

    Congrats on your first all grain brew. I'm sure it's gonna taste great no matter how violent the fermentation is. I've only blown chunks when using liquid yeast. So, I can't help other than to say it's more than likely the style of the beer being brewed and the amount of dry yeast you added to...

    Hello from Shorewood IL

    Welcome from Naperville! I like Two Brothers but not necessarily the Brewers Coop. Does anyone go to Brew and Grow? I noticed they opened a location in Bolingbrook last week but I have no idea what brewing supplies they stock. Can't find any information on their website.

    3 Year Old Kegged Homebrew...Still Good?

    Mix it with 25% fresh beer and toss an orange in it.

    Former Home Brewer...On the fence about coming back.

    +1 with the fugglies 3 buckets, 10g aluminum pot, 5g stainless steel pot, a nylon bag and some assorted repurposed utensils (spoons, brushes, thermometers, small pots). I brew in a bag on my stove, but my latest addition is a $30 turkey fryer from Menards. Half my bottles are recycled from...

    Just pulled the trigger on 3 lbs of hops

    I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 1lb each of Cascade, Chinook, Magnum, Columbus, Willamette, and Liberty. There's a lot of different things I can do with that variety.

    Who Has The Best Recipe Kits?

    Midwest has great pricing on their all-grain kits. I made a Surly Furious IPA clone and a Belgian Blonde Ale. Both were great but I over-carbed the Surly clone. Would definitely do both again with only slight modifications. I have two AHS kits in fermenters - one in primary and one in secondary...

    Unibroue!

    I also prefer the Chambly Noire. Have one in the fridge at home.

    Hops that smell like pot?

    I assume that we can discuss hemp, since it is legal. I have had some hemp beers in my life that I would like to forget. The two belong seperate in my opinion.
