    Portable RIMS

Are we sure that isn't modern lawn art? No, in truth that is very close to what I had in mind, except mine is gonna have to fit into an apartment kitchen, which seems doable. If I am boiling on a stove or totally separate area, I could just get a shorter ladder I suppose, or cut a full size...

Outta introduce myself first, then start peppering everybody with questions...

Bull, I am glad that the unintelligible can have a home in the Homebrewing world. Nice dirigible Air. If a balloon falls into that category. If not, sweet balloon! N5629 is the fire number of my parents house - back when the post office used rural routes you'd give that number to the fire...

    Portable RIMS

MrNate, Where did you find your coolers - I am having a devil of a time tracking two down - it is coming to the point of me trying to con my track-coach uncle to let me buy a couple from his high school. Also, I'd rather not pay shipping on those suckers, or I'd just order online.

    Portable RIMS

Actually, that makes alot of sense - and it would make sparging a bit easier - you could gravity drain the wort out of the MLT while pumping sparge water out of the HLT a whatever rate you'd want. Something to think about...

Outta introduce myself first, then start peppering everybody with questions...

Hey Everybody, I guess I just realized I probably made the inconsiderate move of interjecting myself into threads without an introduction. I go to school up in Eau Claire WI and got a extract kit for my birthday last January. It's been downhill from there, as far as other parts of my life are...

    Portable RIMS

I've been formulating a plan for a portable RIMS for a couple weeks now and have a pretty clear idea of what I want - and now, before I start fabricating this contraption I could use a review of this plan before I start throwing cash at it. The idea is to build a portable frame for the RIMS -...

    Enigmatic, but good, wheat beer

Thanks for the info guys. Good to know what went on there. Another question though - Does adding the extract later in the boil have any other effects on the wort other than to lighten the color - anything to do with bittering or the like?

    Enigmatic, but good, wheat beer

Last June I brewed up a batch of what I thought would be a pale wheat - but the end result wasn't pale at all - more the color you'd expect from a Amer. Amber Ale or something in that direction. The recipe was as follows: Pre-Boil 1/2 lb Flaked Wheat steeped at 160 deg. 30 min. Boil -...

    5 Gallon Igloo Water Cooler?

Do those of you who use the 5 gallon Igloos for, say, a 10# grain bill, find that the grainbed isn't deep enough, especially in PM situations? Does anybody use rice hulls or the like to bolster the depth of the bed?
