    Fermenting Again?

You have a beer that's been in the primary for three weeks and its still active? A red ale should have been done in a week. That said, it doesn't really matter since you're not talking about bottling. Go ahead and take it to secondary and watch activity while its there (I assume the Krausen...

    I love Craigslist!!

http://detroit.craigslist.org/for/191695545.html Pretty good deal there. $150 for tons of stuff - good for someone just starting out. I don't check very often, but every once in a while I'll check for a fridge for lagering.

Group 18 Brewing - Johann Sebastian Bock

It's just a bad pun, really, but it's written as intended. :D

The Pumpkin is better than I expected

I'm too anxious for that! I'm ready for my second brew, and the pumpkin ale was going to fit the bill so nicely. Since I probably won't have time to brew until this weekend, I'll hold off on starting until then. That gives me three days to come up with a replacement recipe. Time to get...

Group 18 Brewing - Johann Sebastian Bock

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I wasn't totally thinking about how it would come out once I printed it, but you're right - the text will probably be WAY too small. I'll up the font sizes tonight and put up version 2.0 for your viewing pleasure. As for the sending of beer, I may just do...

The Pumpkin is better than I expected

Chimone - Based on your good feelings about your recipe, I decided to use yours for my Pumpkin Ale. In your original post, you suggested more biscuit, wheat, and cinnamon, but less nutmeg. Are there any more changes? Here's what I'm doing: 5.0 lbs Light DME 1.0 lbs Wheat DME 1.0 lbs...

If You were buckets of crackers what kind would you be?

I am a bucket of ____Better Chedders____. I don't think they make those any more, but I loved them when I was younger.

Group 18 Brewing - Johann Sebastian Bock

What do you think of this as a first draft label for my very first batch of beer? It's a European Bock, so I think the name is perfect ;-) Looking for feedback on the name as well as the label. Thanks!

    Possible to prime in carboy?

So, is the answer that he shouldn't try to add priming sugar to his carboy? I've got a similar problem. I had the bright idea that my bottling bucket would be a perfect secondary since it had a spigot - no need to siphon! D'oh! I forgot about priming. In my case, I have a spare glass carboy...

Days of carrying homebrew on the plane may be numered...

I don't know at what point they stopped doing it, but I know I always used to be asked to take a swig out of my beverage before letting me pass through security. Looks like this policy might be reinstituted.

    Beer Homework

I agree. I stopped after having those two. The Optimator tastes a lot like my beer after its first week in primary (I'm doing a bock) - its got a very strong taste. The Paulaner Hefe is very unlike the Widmar Hefe that I usually drink. It's got more of a bite and aftertaste than the ones...

The Pumpkin is better than I expected

I'm glad to see good reviews of a pumpkin ale come in. Can you link to the thread that shows the recipe you used, if there is one? I'm going to pick up ingredients at my LHBS soon. He's got a pumpkin ale recipe he gives out, but I have NO idea what it tastes like. If you've got an extract...

    Beer Homework

In an effort to expand my palate and get an idea of what kinds of beers I'd like to try to brew myself, I went to the specialty store to get some new brews. They have such a huge selection, I had a hard time figuring out what to get. I ended up with the picture you see below: So far...

7 Days in Primary and still no fermentation!! HELP

For some reason starters seem intimidating. I've only done my first batch so far, but starters seem like an advanced technique or something. I know I'll be doing my reading before the next batch and hope to get things rolling with a starter this time around ;-) I'd like to avoid problems like...

    Thinking of brewing

I can enjoy a Budweiser from time to time, but it really pales in comparison to the flavors and styles of other beers available. Budweiser is good if that's all you know, but once you start trying other beers you realize what you've been missing! Still Budweiser isn't bad. Just look for a...

    horrible tasting while bottling

Well, it works! I know I've found some old Budweiser cans in the fridge after the 110 days period. I cracked one open and it smelled different, so I figured it had to be bad :cross: - threw it out. Hopefully I won't have to deal with Budweiser in the fridge now that I'm a homebrewer!

    horrible tasting while bottling

Does anyone know why mass market beers like Budweiser say to drink before 110 days?

is there Homebrew supply store etiquette?

Yeah, my LHBS is great! I'm new to brewing, and I've only been in once, but it was a good experience. I asked about getting some equipment and he walked me through all the pieces. He even threw in White Labs liquid yeast because he said it would work better than the dry in the kit (no...

    Big Beer! - Fermenting Times

I like my stouts, but my wife shot that down as a first beer because she doesn't like them. Based on her reaction to the bock, I don't think she'll be particularly fond of this either. Fortunately we both really like Hefeweizen. Is there a recipe you've had particular success with in the past?

    Big Beer! - Fermenting Times

My drinking has already increased significantly in just this last week since I boiled this first batch. I bought a bunch of new beers to do "homework" - Hoegaarden, Blue Moon, Hefeweizen - just to start taking note of how they look, taste, smell, pour. Trying to get a better knowledge base to...
