Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Bensiff, The Brewer's Hardware Element Adapter is the route I am going as well. I will use the 2" if I can have John at Stout install a 2" Tri-Clover Ferrule for the Element port on a special order. Opens up the options for wavy ULWD elements. And it is purdy.

Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Wrox, Thanks for the feedback. The sight tube observations and the general circulation/element placement comments will really help in planning my system. Any issues so far with rust on your elements bases? Two things I am strongly considering is requesting a 2" ferrule for the heater...

Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Looks fantastic. A few questions if you don't mind. How do you like the sparge arm? It certainly looks sweet (big tubes of stain tend to look that way) but wonder if you have had any clogging issues during recirculation. What are you thoughts on the sight glasses on the BK and HLT...

Wroxbrew's 20 gallon stout tank build

Wrox, I was curious if you got this completed and if you have brewed on it yet. My basement eBuild has been delayed but am still planning a very similar build to yours.

    TRI-clamp herms coil?

Wrox, How high is the tangential inlet on your Boil Kettle? Have you measured the liquid level that covers it on the inside? They don't really say what the dead space in cone the From Stout's site and the photos, it looks pretty low. It doesn't appear hot side aeration would be an issue so...

    TRI-clamp herms coil?

Wrox, Nice work on the enclosure. Know thy self: I am going with the adapter! This is a blog from Norway showing it in greater detail (LINK). I will likely go the HERMS route as well. Sorry for the confusion, my question on the recirculation pertained to the HLT, not the MLT. As you...

    TRI-clamp herms coil?

What are you using for your element enclosure? Your set up is nearly spot on to what I have been researching, minus the fermenter. I have been leaning towards using the element adapter from Brewers Hardware (LINK) and using a pass through vs. Stout fitting, which I assume does not come with a...

    Madison Wisconsin

It is fun reading an out of towner's experience. I know I can sometimes get spoiled or overlook some of the really good options available in the Madison market. I just enjoyed a Capital Dark last night after not having one in way too long. Capital has had their issues in recent years, but...

    Madison Wisconsin

I love Spotted Cow for the simple fact that it has allowed them to brew Enigma, Black Top, Dancing Man, .......... I will still drink it in a heart beat over a macro offering. It is definitely more of a Kolsch/Cream Ale.

    Madison Wisconsin

Bedlam was one of my favorite local beers last year along with Black Top and Lake Louie's Mosquito Beach (California Common style and, alas, another May release). I am not typically a fan of Belgian IPAs but the Citra hops are a perfect pairing with the Belgian yeast in Bedlam. Check out...

    Madison Wisconsin

I love Ale Asylum, but would not call their beers way better than New Glarus. To each their own, but I love them both. It is a shame you are not here in May, when Black Top (2011 Black IPA Gold winner at GABF) and Dancing Man (Heffe) are released. Golden Ale is a good call, as it is a brewery...

Whats the Best Commercial Beer you have ever had?

Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout. I had it two years ago at the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison during a special tapping. It was a very hot day with high humidity, as it had not stop raining until 30 minutes before the gates opened. Basically as anti-stout weather as you can get...
