    Buzzsaw brown ale

Deschutes Brewing makes Buzzsaw. I bought some a few days ago and liked it but I still haven't had a brown ale as good as Rogues' Hazelnut Brown Nectar.

    Mychorrhzae and New Rhizomes

There are many companies that cater to the indoor and/or hydroponic gardener and they sell myco's and all kinds of other good fungi for root zone inoculation. We all know what kind of plants these people are producing these products for and hops, again as we all know, is very closely related. I...

I am in Hog Heaven and then some... Barley wines!!!

Picked up a bottle 2006 Old Guardian at the LHBS today and all I can say is WOW! I love this beer. I can't believe that its legal to have a beer of this alcohol content taste so good.

    The Importance of Glassware

Just wondering how many people find that using the correct glass for the style of beer is important. If you do use different glasses why do you find them to be superior compared to a regular pint glass or mug?

    Unibroue Mix Pack at Costco

Maudite La Fin Du Monde Trois Pistoles Don de Dieu All in 750ml bottles. I have never tried anything from Unibroue but I have a feeling it's totally worth the $15 for this.

    First Ag = ....

Well at least you learned something from it. Like an old boss of mine used to say, "If you ain't f***in' s**t up, you ain't workin'."

Wife vs Fermentation - She always wins.

I use only wood to heat my house so it gets pretty cold overnight. I have been using a seedling heat mat underneath my carboy and it seems to work well enough, although I like the cooler and aquarium heater idea as well.

    Sam Adams Vinegar Flavor

My beer palette isn't developed enough for me to say for sure it is vinegar but, I do a lot of BBQ'in and use cider vinegar quite often and that is exactly what this flavor reminds me of.

    Smoking Meat in Winter

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I grill and smoke year 'round and don't have much of a problem. The biggest concern is like Revvy said, block the wind, this could make the fire hotter or colder depending on how much of your coals are burning. Just keeps your temps good and enjoy the process.

    Sam Adams Vinegar Flavor

I recently bought a mix pack of Sam Adams from Costco and there was a very noticeable cider vinegar flavor at the finish of the cream stout, old fezziwig, and winter ales. Is this intentional or did I get some foul beer? I don't drink much Sam Adams so I cant say for sure but it does seem odd.

iBrew - An iPhone Brew Log

I would love to have something like this for my iphone. I am always checking for new tools to help with all my hobbies. I think this would be handy for formulating recipes when not at home. Having a shopping list and current inventory list would be great, I am always forgetting something when I...

The stupidest comment on your beer

Recently when telling a friend that I started making homebrew he told me that he has always heard that the first few batches are no good. What? That's like saying the first cake you ever bake will be trash. Apparently he didn't think there could actually be beer recipes out there and people who...

Corvallis Homebrew Supply is where I got the recipe and ingredients for the stout I have brewing. I definetly liked the place, very helpful and friendly and most of patient with a noob like myself. BTW, I just finished bottling my first homebrew!:)

    Unbreakable Hydrometer

I like that polycarbonate hydrometer for sure, but that is pretty steep. I guess its glass ones for now but tax time isn't too far away.:)

    Gravity Question

Thank you for the correction egolla, I re-read the section in Palmers' guide about malted grains. I guess this would be an extract brew with steeped specialty grains? So are the grains that require mashing just a super low Lovibond or am I still missing something?

    Unbreakable Hydrometer

Not even two weeks since I started brewing and I have broken my first hydrometer. I've searched the web for an "unbreakable" replacement without any luck. Has anyone come across an unbreakable or otherwise more resilient hydrometer?

    Hello From Oregon

I just got into brewing beer a few weeks ago and so far I am loving it. I had been wanting to try it for quite some time and ended up getting a brew kit for Christmas. Within 3 days I had 15 gal of beer going. The first two were all extract recipes using Coopers LME. That was so much fun two...

    Gravity Question

I'm not sure what the roasted malt actually was. That was how it was listed on the recipe and I didn't know what it meant so I asked the guy and he just told me "this one" so that was that. I figured I could trust him he designed the recipe after all.:)
