    Mashing Technique

From Midwest Supplies website - http://www.midwestsupplies.com/batch-sparging-vs-fly-sparging.html "In the past, brewers stayed away from batch sparging because the efficiency rate was lower compared to fly sparging. Today’s grains are modified specifically for brewing, and they do not...

    Hefe Tastes Hot and Off...

My most recent American Wheat had a similar issue. I only fermented for 8 days total, and then put it right in the keg. A week later I figured it was carbed enough to taste. Yes, it tasted hot and had a bit of a funny aftertaste. Oh, well. I let it sit for another week in the keg under...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Next Saturday I'll be brewing a Mosaic American Pale - recipe that my friend Lyle and I designed. 95% Maris Otter, 5% Cara-Pils/Dextrine, 1.050 with S-05. Using Nugget for the bittering addition. It started out as a SMaSH, but we tweaked it after reading on HBT that early additions with Mosaic...

    Are Kegs Worth the Cost?

Another thought - as the number of ball lock kegs in the marketplace has diminished the price has gone up. My kegs are an appreciating asset! At least that's what I tell SWMBO. :mug:

how long did it take you to get good?

When (if?) I ever become a "good" brewer - I'll let you know. Always learning, adjusting process, recipes, etc... My beer ain't bad, local craft brewers and BJCP judges have tasted it and said it was good - but it will always have room for improvement.

Should I add fining Gelatin to a stout?

We're making "craft beer", right? Why not put some effort in to make it just as "crafty" as it can be. Every little extra bit of effort you make will produce a "just that much better" result. :mug:

Should I add fining Gelatin to a stout?

I use gelatin in all of my beers, excluding wheat beers. I think it adds a "sparkle" to the beer, even stouts.

    Breweries in Savannah, GA

World of Beers will make your head spin. Like 60 taps and hundreds of bottles. I didn't think Sweetwater or Moon River were worth a crap. YMMV
