    First all grain BIAB

Bottles of spring water off the shelf

    First all grain BIAB

I use bottled water from either the grocery store or Walmart. I have used it for all my batches. So should I do another batch and merge the 2 together? I'll do an extract version with some extra LME, but keep the steeping grains the same

    First all grain BIAB

The OG was 1.021. According to Brewers friend, it will finish at 1.006 which for a stout is way too dry. I am using S-04 yeast

    First all grain BIAB

This was a 1 gallon batch by the way. I mashed then boiled with 2 gallons

    First all grain BIAB

1.5 lbs of Maris Otter 0.1 lb of black malt 0.2 lb of C60 0.2 lb of chocolate malt 0.3 lb of roasted barley It was mashed for 75 minutes at 155 degrees. For the last 20 minutes I had to turn up the heat because it dropped to 148-150. I got the temp back up within a few minutes. I used a...

    First all grain BIAB

Hello everyone, I just did my first BIAB and ended up with a 25% efficiency. It was a 1 gallon stout recipe I converted from extract to grain. If I brew the extract recipe, can I merge the 2 into the secondary, or should I just suck it up and drink the 1 gallon of 1.94 ABV once it's done? I...

    Black IPA

So as a follow up, its been 2 weeks, and I transferred to secondary today. The gravity reading I got was 1.024 (OG was 1.078) which seems pretty sweet to me. I am going to let it sit in secondary for 3 weeks, and dry hop for the final 2. Hopefully I can hide the sweetness with the hops.

    Question about soaking and boiling

I will try that next time to maximize the grains. I figured if I split the 10L it would cut down on the time it took for the water to boil. I guess no shortcuts from now on!

    Question about soaking and boiling

Does that mean that the beer will be different depending on where it sits in the fermenter if it wasn't mixed completely? I did stir (mix) the crap out of it before I pitched the yeast and had activity about 2 hours after pitching.

    Question about soaking and boiling

Yes, it was steeping only. After I boiled and cooled I topped up with cold water to 20 liters total. My estimated OG was supposed to be 1.085 and ended up being 1.078 which isn't a big deal as long as the FG reading goes lower than what was estimated. (1.024) But I won't know that for a couple...

    Question about soaking and boiling

Hey Guys and Girls, Today I did my extract Black IPA. It was my first 10 liter boil and what I did was soaked my grains in 4 liters of water and while they were soaking I poured 6 liters into my brew pot and dumped all the LME into it just before my grains were done the 30 minute soak. Should...

    Triple Chocolate Coffee Stout

Gonna sub to this recipe. I'm going to do a 1 or 2 gallon on this. Sounds more like a great dessert beer with some cake. I like stout, but not 5 gallons of it.

    American IPA Blood Moon IPA

This recipe sounds great. I am going to do this after I am finished my black IPA

Project box for diy stir plate

have you searched eBay? They probably have lots of cheap ones on there from China or Hong Kong if you don't mind waiting for it to be shipped. Shipping to Canada from there is normally 2.5-3 weeks (12-15 business days)

    Black IPA

I am going to do this with the 11L boil, with the 5.8kg of DLME and use 85g Simcoe on the start of the 60 minute boil, the 55g of cascade at 15 minutes remaining and 52g Simcoe at flame out. I will also steep the grains for more than the advised 20 mins. (I have been doing my steeps for normally...

    Black IPA

So I am not too sure how is going to work... If I follow the directions and boil 6 L for 30 minutes with everything then full up to 23 L later I end up with SG: 1.060 FG: 1.017 ABV: 5.69 IBU: 13.56 SRM: 30.17 If I change the recipe by adding the extra 1.3kg of LME with the same 6L boil then...

    Black IPA

I didn't think about that. That's a great idea. I will do that now and see what I start with, make the changes and see how close it is.

    Black IPA

Thank you. Don't worry about the conversion, I can always do that without any problems..

    Black IPA

I honestly was thinking more about the ABV boost and the balance than the flavour when adding the extra LME. I should have mentioned that in my first post. Normally this kit mentions the boil of only about 7 litres, but I figure if I can do 10 or 11 that would be a cleaner beer if I did a...

    Black IPA

Hello everyone, I was looking for some insight about a extract kit I purchased. I have been reading online that if you do a full 60 minute boil you need to use less hops because the utilization is better for a full boil. This kit I purchased is a black IPA, and it is a 30 minute boil...
