    Plate chiller or new immersion?

Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone. Plate chillers sound like they do a great job but I'm doing gravity feed for now and it just seems like I would get a stuck flow with all those small nooks and crannies. I really like counterflow idea and since I have 25' of copper from my IC I...

    Plate chiller or new immersion?

Are you using a water pump? If so, where in line is it? What diameter is your tubing?

    Plate chiller or new immersion?

So for my last 3 brews I have stepped up my system to 10 gallons but the problem I'm running into is my copper immersion chiller which worked ok for 5gal batches takes forever on my 10gal batches. Like an hour or more! I'm even recirculating ice water with a pump through the chiller and still...

Hullabaloo? Hahaha! Got to love autocorrect! Hulls, I meant hulls!

New to batch sparge and stainless braid, need help!

I cover the braid with them so I have about 1" at the bottom of my MLT, pour about 6"-8" of grain in, add strike water and stir being careful not to stir too deep. Even if I do the braid will still have hullabaloo around it. Pour the rest of my grain and water in, stir and let rest. Works for me...

New to batch sparge and stainless braid, need help!

You can add rice hulls around the braid to help with drainage. I use a braid with rice hulls, vourlof about a gallon and it drains just fine with my valve at about half way.

    Batch Sparge...Are Rice Hulls Necessary?

I'm only on my 4th AG but I have used rice hulls on my last 2 and have noticed that my mash tons drain easier with them. One was a stout the other a dunkle. The IPA I did before that drained so slow it took forever to get my volume. I do 10gal batches using 2 5gal round coolers to mash in. Rice...

    Bitterness coveted...

I know what you're talking about. It took me awhile to appreciate a good IPA. There are a lot of varieties to choose from. I kept trying until I found the realm of IPA that I like. I lean twards the sweeter side like Stone and Racer 5, they are really tasty and now one of my favorite types of beer.

    Bayou store in Seattle?

Amazon prime is great but I've already got the burner see. I have a faulty valve that needs replacing and I wanted to just go buy the part somewhere cause I needed it now. A buddy loaned me his burner though so I'll probably just order the part online now anyways since I didn't find a retail...

    Bayou store in Seattle?

I'm having trouble finding an actual store that carries the Bayou line of items. Does anyone know where I can buy Bayou in Seattle or are they strictly online sales? Thanks

    Stone IPA Gravity Difference

Great suggestion. I'm brewing a double batch this weekend of this same recipe (since the first one went too quick) and will plug the attenuation percentage into BeerSmith. I'm going to split the batch up and use two different yeasts though. One will be the WLP002 that I used the first time and...

    Stone IPA Gravity Difference

Just a follow up. After I gave it a swirl and added some of the yeast starter from my other new batch I let is sit until last weekend when the FG was 1.016 with 3 days spread. I kegged it and it turned out fantastic! I'm glad I have you guys and your help and the patients to wait it out! Thanks!

    Do bottle caps go bad?

Good point. Caps are cheap. Why risk it. Tossing them, or giving them to my kids for an art project! Thanks everyone.

    Do bottle caps go bad?

I'll check for any cracking of the seal. Might go ahead and try them on a few bottles before I use all of them. Thanks for the input.

    Do bottle caps go bad?

I just received two boxes of bottle caps from a family member who had them in the attic. They are probably over 10 years old. Does the gasket seal go bad after some amount of time? Should I just toss them or are they OK to use?

    Measuring wort/water volume

1/2" copper pipe notched with tubing cutter. Used a Sharpie to mark the gallons but it wipes off after a few uses so I have to reapply. I like the engraver idea. Might have to try that.
