Counterflow Wort Chiller Build (and use)

I wouldn't use an auto syphon with boiling water. It will melt or be ruined. Use a step bit to drill out your aluminum pot and install a ball valve. It's pretty easy to do. That's what I did to my aluminum pot. You could also use a stainless steel or copper racking cane with silicone tubing if...

Well, Im done with glass carboys!

Wasn't this just supposed to be a memorial for the OP's lost beer?

Well, Im done with glass carboys!

Exactly. I am so very careful when handling mine. Clear the path, always use milk crates and never carry a full one by the handle. Sorry for your loss OP. I'm just glad you're OK.

This! I love my glass carboys. I use milk crates as well and haven't had an issue yet.

    Fresh hops question?

I use a hop spider when using leaf hops and always pull my hops after the boil. I use muslin bags with a handful of marbles when dry hopping. Marbles help submerge the bags.

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Brewed this a couple months ago and served it at a party last night. It smelled and tasted delicious! It got rave reviews from people. The citra is outstanding I'm this brew. Keg went dry at the party. Good thing I made a double batch and have a spare to tap! Thanks for providing this recipe...

Starting my first brew, what will it smell like?

Sounds like you're 13 trying to do this in your closet in your parents house. Smells like trouble to me...

Apids on Harvested Hops, what to do.

I picked Friday and packaged Sunday night. I ended up sifting them 3 times because each time I sifted another round of aphids would emerge after about an hour, each time getting a smaller and smaller amount. The sifting really knocked them off and helped out though. I don't have a spot outside...

Apids on Harvested Hops, what to do.

Good suggestion Day Tripper because even though I was able to shake a lot of them off yesterday, by this morning I had more aphids conglomerating on the edges of the drying pans and boxes. Not nearly as many as yesterday though. I took a wet paper towel and wiped all the edges down. I'll keep an...

any HB clubs in Tacoma area

I bet there are. Hit up some of your local breweries for clubs. If you can't find one and White Center isn't too far you can join our club, Rat City Homebrew Club. We meet every 3rd Thursday at Big Al Brewing.

Apids on Harvested Hops, what to do.

I harvested about 4lbs of Cascades yeaterday and was so stoked because they looked and smelled beautiful and I just bought a vacuum sealer to package them with. I spread them out on cookie sheets in a dark room with a heat fan blowing on them for the night. No sign of aphids at all. Earlier...

    Ok to bottle with these?

They are gasketed like Grolsch bottles. I haven't tested them though. I'll run a test on them but I'll also use some keg lube, good idea. I think I have some around here somewhere.

Those might actually work! Would love to see what you could do with them. On a side note what does your name mean?

    Ok to bottle with these?

Well there's actually both sizes. No other markings. They're pretty cool bottles and heavy duty! I'm going to try them out this weekend. Thanks for the info!

Brewing Solo, The best thing since sliced bread

Brewing with friends is fun but I usually end up making mistakes or missing notes. I do enjoy my alone time brew days. They usually go so much smoother. I do the early morning brew day as well. It's great starting that strike water before anyone's up in my house. Just me and my dog!

    Ok to bottle with these?

Thanks guys. New gaskets indeed. Any ideas where they are from? The picture on the cap has what looks like a barrel or a kettle with mash paddles and wheat stalks.
