Question about gravity, mash temp and wort fermentability

I know what you guys are saying. I will focus on stirring more next time and I always sparge with about three gallons of water. The question is whether or not gravity is dependent on the amount of sugar in solution? Ie: if I pour the same amount of starch into two solutions, mash one at 154...

Question about gravity, mash temp and wort fermentability

Today I did my third brew in a bag attempt of a pale ale I am trying to dial in. The malt bill has been the same every time, only hop additions are different. First time I was way off my og. Last time it went perfectly. I hit all of my numbers and I am drinking the beer now. This time around...

    Komodo tap handle

Just finished this thing up. I sanded it down, reburned the lettering, applied the first coat of finish and stain, moulded the head flush with the sides, sanded and restained it. Here is the final product on my kegerator!

    Komodo tap handle

I wish. Unfortunately, this is just like any other tap handle which sits on top of a normal faucet. I'll post pics when its on my kegerator.

    Komodo tap handle

Burned my buddy's logo into the top and komodo down the sides. After glueing my hands together, I managed to get the head into the top of the handle. Just needs to be sanded down and have the tap insert put into the bottom and she's all done! This was a pretty cool project all in all. In you...

    Komodo tap handle

Just painted it this morning. Added some translucent green drool to the mouth. The next step is figuring out what to do with the handle. I have it here but I need to figure out what I want to do to decorate it. Pretty pleased with how the head came out. Ill keep updating as I make more progress!

    Komodo tap handle

Yeah its like over 50 types of bacteria in their saliva. They bite their prey and then follow it around until it dies. The beer naming possibilities are endless.

    Komodo tap handle

I named my homebrewing operation Komodo brewing company a while ago, and my buddy recently has been making some cool artwork and logos for me. I wanted to make some custom tap handles to show off his work. I decided a tap with a Komodo head coming out of the top of it would be awesome, so I...

Is My New Recipe Any Good?

+1. Warrior is a fairly neutral hop flavor wise with high alpha so if you are looking for big flavor and aroma in your late additions this is probably not the way to go. Also seems like 2 lbs of crystal is a lot for a 5 gallon batch. Just my 2 cents. Good luck Chans

    Accidental Pale Ale

Thanks for the reply. I decided to not fwh and just do late additions. I will be using warrior for bittering. Lhbs guys explained that this will result in a more stable bitterness so I'm not left with an unbalanced beer over time even tho some of the citra may have disappeared. Going to go...

    Accidental Pale Ale

Hi All, I brewed my first all grain BIAB recipe a few weeks back (citra pale ale), but I got what I thought was horrible efficiency out of my grain. Based on the feedback from this forum, It sounds like my efficiency was OK, but I diluted my brew without realizing what I was doing. I ended up...

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

So what would be the solution to this, because after thinking about this it makes more sense to me. Is the answer to spare with more water to get up to a higher pre boil volume?

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

OG is now 1.046. Thanks for the help everyone

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Yeah its kind of my only option at the moment. The hop character from the samples I pulled before was good, so hopefully this will do the trick.

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Also maybe boiling off some water will get me more gravity points overall. Sacrifice some beer for a better overall tasting beer. Wish me luck

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Target OG was 1.051. I got 1.022. I tried mixing it again because I thought I may have just sampled a diluted area but there was no difference. The key is really the fact that it TASTES like water. Both samples did. I have some extra light DME, maybe 2.5 lbs if I'm lucky (I think it may be time...

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Grains were milled by my LHBS. Recipe was 9# US 2 row pale malt, 1# Victory, 1# wheat malt

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Yeah I think I didn't get good mixing. What is the best way to salvage this beer? Thanks for the replies everyone

    First BIAB Attempt Derp

Thanks for the quick response, No I boiled for an hour after sparging. I mashed in 6 gallons and added another one from sparging. I boiled off quite a bit of water and had to dilute it to get it back up to 5.5 gallons. I am guessing that I just needed to squeeze the bag and stir the grains in...
